I've never heard of that and quite frankly, I don't know how that would affect the scratch. Perhaps it will fill it in, but it may make it more difficult for the laser to read the surrounding information.
Toothpaste does work. I'm not joking. You need to use a paste, not a gel. Dilute a small amount in warm water then use your finger and LIGHTLY rub the CD back and forth from the center to the edge. Do not go in a circular motion or any other direction besides inside-to-out or outside-to inside.
The crystals in the paste acts like a fine sandpaper to buff out scratches. I've used this method about 7 or 8 times and it has worked all but twice.

You mean fingernail polish remover, right? It could very well eat the plastic -- I wouldn't try it.
To clean scratches I have heard that you can buff the CD with toothpaste and then rinse it with water and dry before using.
Also, try playing the CD in a computer if you haven't done that already -- computer CD players can often do a better job with scratched CDs.
ADDITIONAL: It just occurred to me that you might be talking about filling the scratches with fingernail polish. I don't think that's a good idea.

Fingernail polish is not a cleaner! I use it on bolts that vibrate loose on my harley or farm equipment and it keeps them from backing out because it is a cement.I think you run the risk of damage to your cd player too.Ohh to be young and impulsive again.

definitely not, the easiest way to clean a cd is run some warm water and dish soap. Dunk your disk in and dry it with a cloth, Do not rub circularly though as it will increase your chance of it getting scratched.

I actually think that it won't clean it but will mess your CD up.So I really suggest that you don't use finger nail polish on it.It's just my opinion I've never tried it because I think it's dangerous.

It wouldnt clean it really. It probably wouldnt even be that good for it. But toothpaste works great to clean it and fill in the scratches. But use paste, not gel. Paste is the only kind that will work.
