The 2007 versions of Norton AntiVirus and the other Internet Security applications include free upgrades to Vista-compatible versions. The problem Symantec have is that it looks like they won't get to see the final code for Vista until Microsoft decide what its going to be, and maybe not even then. From previous experience, I wouldn't be surprised if they have to send someone to buy one of the first copies of Vista in somewhere like Australia or New Zealand, fly it back to the USA, see if it works with their products or not and "reverse-engineer" it if required!

The reason why Symantec/McAfee products will not work with Vista is because Microsoft has finally decided to block access to certain system files by all third-party programs, in order to help keep Vista PCs safer.
Of course, Symantec & McAfee are rather annoyed at this, because their programs require access to those system files in order to run, and they're too lazy to recreate their programs to work without them.
The only thing you have to worry about using on Vista is its pre-installed Microsoft Live OneCare anti-virus/anti-spyware program. If you need something right now, there's also AVG Free Anti-virus, and Spybot - Search & Destroy.
EDIT: Another reason they're so bitter towards MS about this - Their profit is dependent entirely on the fact that current versions of Windows that are in use today by us are unsecured from threats. If Windows Vista is made to be totally secure, then that means that McAfee/Symantec don't get any profit from having their software on the market. They've even gone so far as to say that it's illegal for Microsoft to enforce such security measures for their new OS, because they're that greedy.

You can wait until norton/symantec comes out with a version to work with vista (which would be shortly after vista is released)
I would actually wait till Vista is about 3-6 months old (after release) before upgrading to a new OS. Taht way, drivers and programs will work with it.

should of ditched nortons yrs ago....its junk.
google any of the following, all free, all top rated:
ad-aware 6.0 or professional
Spyware Blaster
CCleaner
eTrust PestPatrol
HijackThis
Spybot
Winpatrol
WinPatrol you leave on all the time, will NOT slow you down or even glitch you, but will keep stuff in check and warn you of something wrong.
eTrust PestPatrol is virus and spy program....it will NOT slow you down or even glitch you. but will stop all items coming in that shouldn't be coming in and give you a notice of what its doing.
CCLeaner is good to remove all "junk" at once from the computer.
Spyware Blaster and Adaware are both good spyware programs, run them once a month just to make sure nothing new got through.
used all these for over 5 yrs, all work well, wouldn't trade them.

I have a good feeling that Symantec will have a 2007 Vista version ready when the new OS is launched.
Check out the Beta page for more information:

well your kinda screwed at this time as Microsoft is not giving the anti virus companys the codes in side vista so they can develope protection.they say dont want them being released to hackers.I would asume that microsoft either start selling a tool to protect or give in to preasure.till then we the consumer are S.OUT OF LUCK.
