Well, in terms of Japanese songs there are many as Japan has a large music industry just like the US, if you had more specific types it would be easier to give you more exact type of music you are looking fore since anime songs 1/2 the time are created for anime and 1/2 the time music borrowed from popular artists so it's hard to classify anime-ish songs.
But first of all I'd reccomend the site http://www.gendou.com and register for free there, it had hundreds of japanese anime songs to download.
Some Japanese songs from anime that are in English that you could try are "Moon on the Water" "Hit in the USA" from BECK anime "Broken Wings" from the Trinity Blood anime and songs from the Cowboy Bebop anime.
Some other Japanese songs worth trying are ready steady go by L`arc-en-ciel (from Full Metal Alchemist) , "The World" and "Alumina" by Nightmare (Death Note anime) "Innocent Sorrow" by Abingdon Boys School (D.Gray-man anime)
"Tori no Uta" by Lia (Air Anime) "Kuroi Namida" "Rose" by ANNA (NANA anime) "Starless Night" "A Little Pain" by OLIVIA (from NANA anime)
Those are just some you could try but if you register for the site you can download random songs and find your own taste of anime music from certain anime and Japanese artists.

Anything by Yoko Kanno is good. She did Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Macross Plus, Gasaraki, and Wolf Rain soundtrack...and lots more. They are very different, but all good. The original Street Fighter II the Movie soundtrack is good (NOT the US version). The Record of Lodoss War OAV and TV soundtracks are good. Please Save My Earth has a good soundtrack, slow, but good.
