Well do you think is fair to discriminate on sexual orientation, when a heterosexual could, provided he qualifies, adopt a child?
Now just think how many people out there you've heard of leaving their kids to die in the heat of their car's or thrown into the trash they may not want them, but a gay couple might.
I'm not saying in GENERAL gay parents are any better, but we are just as good. Families with single parents can help a child grow healthy. Just think and be open and you will see that there isn't any damage in the sexual orientation itself, but on the discrimination the child faces because of whom his or her parents are.
I think we ought to be able adopt. Everyone should be checked to see if they are capable and sexual orientation ought not to be a factor.

Frankly, I've known a lot more straight people in my life that shouldn't have kids and did. *L* So the argument that gay people shouldn't have kids because they wouldn't be good parents is bunk. You just as likely to be a good influence as a bad influence on children whether you're gay or straight. That said though, gay people tend to contemplate the parenting very carefully, as they can't naturally reproduce. So people in a same-sex relationship that want to have kids ask each other "Should we adopt, or would a surrogate mother be a better choice?" If both people are lesbians, they may contemplate who is going to carry the child after undergoing artificial insemination. I'm not going to say that these factors prove that gay people are better parents than straight people. They just put more thought into it than some straight people who get pregnant by all sorts of accidents.

I think it's great. There are so many children up for adoption in this country and in so many others that need homes. If gay couples are willing to feed, shelter, love and give these kids lives they otherwise wouldn't be able to have than its a great thing!

i think for a older child that would be hard to place and would stay a ward of the state and grow up never to know what living in a loving home was .. that would be ok...i says this because small children do not easily understand a gay realionship plus the added fact that other children would notice and they can sometimes be cruel and parents are also cruel .. you would have some forbid there children to play with the child that grows up in a gay home... sadly people are way to judgmental and narrow minded..and the child would suffer...just my opion

It takes kids out of a busting-at-the-seams, low quality foster system and places them in loving homes. I think it's cruel NOT to let gay people adopt, and I don't mean cruel to the gay people (we're used to that by now).

It's a great thing. And I'm not just saying that because I'm gay and I adopted.

I have no problem with it. They can provide the same things as a straight foster family in many cases. I especially like the idea of gay foster parents for youth who are in care who are gay because they can provide a positive gay role model for the youth.

Considering the staggering number of children in the system who lack stable, loving parents, I'm amazed that adoption by gays is even an issue.
