Glad to hear you to are switching off, I done the same myself some months back. As for reading materials, go along to your local library and see if it they or others in area have book sales. They are usually very inexpensive as in pence and you can go for many books and discover for yourself your kind of read. It has been totally successful for me, try it.

I love books, there just isn't anything better that a good book, you'll find what you like wasily. Start with some books that are recommended by the bookshops, then once you have a feel you can broaden out into other books of the same genre that you like. I've just read The Princess Bride whihc was excellent, but then again i love a trashy Jackie Collins and a good thriller as well! You've started at a good time there are loads of books on offer at the moment!

I believe you will enjoy reading if you choose something where you already have an interest in the subject. Is there a movie that you really liked that was taken from a book? Find out who the author was and choose one of their works.
I like lots of diffrent things, but I began reading years ago after seeing the movie "Coma". Since then I have read all of Robin Cook's books. I like John Grisham, Michael Palmer, Stephen King, there are so many to choose from, there are five books on my nightstand now awaiting my attention.
Good luck

Hmmm well what kind of movies do you like? Most people seem to read the same genre as they enjoy watching on the big screen. Me, I'm a horror/mystery-thriller/classic fan.....but to each his own!!
The best book I've read recently was John Grisham's "Innocent Man". It's a true crime book based on the story of a man who was wrongly accused of committing murder. It's an awesome read if you a chance!

Hmm. It depends on what you are in the mood for. Sci-fi Try Piers Anthony (On a Pale Horse is the first in a good series), Horror, Stephen King is good, Action Adventure - read some of the original James Bond books and compare them to the movies. The best place to go is a used book store just to get a good survey of books for pretty cheap. Hope this helps. ; )

I read everything!
What interests you?
Read up on it.
You can find just as much drama in a book as you can a dribbling idiotic television show and it might actually leave you feeling somewhat satisfied rather than vegetative and lost like the telly does....
Whenever I watch something on television that I didn't first plan to watch, it always leaves me with the feeling that I wish I could get that time back... but you can't...

Like everyone else said :) just perusing the local bookstore or library is one of the best ways to find books (if you're in the right sectioon). Try finding books that mirror your TV interests a bit; for example, if you like cop shows, ask a librarian if s/he knows any books that are about that type of thing. Yeah for turning off the tv!

I've just finished Lovely Bones, It was fantastic, the main character was speaking from the dead. Can't remember who it's by though, it does depend on what you like to read though.
Another good book is BirdSong by Sebastian Faulks, this is amazingly written but very depressing, it's about men in the first world war.
My advice is just go to a book shop or a library and just browse, pick up books that seem interesting to you and read the first chapter, if it hooks you, get it!
Hope that helps.

I LOVE to read anything and everything and don't feel complete if I haven't got a book on the go.
Just go your local bookshop head for the section you think you might be interested in and start reading the back cover of a few. One will certainly jump out at you as being your kind of thing. If you don't like it try something else.. Even better go to the library and it won't cost you a thing (unless you forget to return them on time!)

I'm usually have my nose stuck in a book when my shows are repeats. (CSI Miami & CSI New York)
I've been getting really hooked on poetry and reading upon the
life of the impressionist. Also, reading on Nickola Tesla.
Read my profile and you'll see why I'm never bored. Unless
I take a break from kids, work and social life, I am here trying to
help others on Y!Answers!.
