The Catholic Church agrees with the U.S. Constitution as currently interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court and does not support "structured" prayer in public schools.

In the Vatican II document, Declaration on Religious Freedom, Dignitatis Humanae (Human Dignity), the Church states:

The human person has a right to religious freedom. This freedom means that all men are to be immune from coercion on the part of individuals or of social groups and of any human power, in such wise that no one is to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his own beliefs, whether privately or publicly, whether alone or in association with others, within due limits.

Children will continue to privately pray before tests just like they always have.

With love in Christ.

I feel like everyone should have a right to believe and practice their own religion because well that's what our country was built upon many years ago.

A moment of silence, where some children could pray and others would not, should be in all classrooms. No one should be forced to pray but no one should be denied the chance to pray.

It should not be called a prayer but simply a moment of silence or reflection. We don't want to mix church and state too much.

Keep manditory prayers to private schools.

There's nothing wrong with a good prayer or students involved in a group that does prayer or something, but it should not be a manditory activity in a public school.

i'm a Christian and characteristic been a instructor for decades. i'm very hostile to creating any non secular education or mandatory prayer area of public faculties. maximum folk who whinge about "taking God out of the colleges" or the societal issues considering "prayer change into taken out of faculty" are very incorrect. there is no prohibition on own prayer, the practise of religion as information, or letting students have their own non secular golf equipment. it truly is a some distance extra actual style of religion than the rote recitation of faculty-huge prayers we used to have. we stay in a diverse society and parents deliver their little ones there believing that they received't be made to stick with non secular beliefs that are hostile to their abode practise. maximum of those who desire "college prayer" imagine this is going to recommend Christianity. besides the actual incontrovertible truth that some mothers and fathers stick with different religions, how might want to the Christians experience if yet another faith change into accepted because the only to coach? it truly is nice to have an surroundings the position no faith is enforced and all are loose to coach privately.

I believe that if a person wants to or feels obligated to pray during school they should have every right to. HOWEVER, i think that taking time out of a school day for an organized, school wide prayer is rediculous. People have their own religious beliefs and it is very uncomfortable to be forced to pray by someone else. I believe it intrudes upon the person's freedom of religion.

My kids went to a Parochial High School. The public kids loved to play sports at our school, because they could have team prayers without anyone threatening to sue the school!

I don't think prayer should be in public schools, because you can have your own silent prayers without disturbing anyone. Besides that means other religions would start be recognized in schools.

Students who gather together in small groups before school to pray is okay. I object to having mandatory praying in public
schools because it would only lead to trouble. Whose faith
would be used? If we only use Christians then the Jewish,
Muslim, and others would get upset. How about which faith,
like Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, etc.. Privately praying is fine
because it won't intrude on any other belief.
