Led Zeppelin, especially Dazed and Cofused.
Black Sabbath, most anything by them.

My personal opinion. Being from the late 60's and 70's era, I look more for the innovators. Musicians who really got things started in classic rock. As far as bass guitarists, I would probably go straight to anything Tim Bogert of Vanilla Fudge has done. He was doing bass lines in 1967 that were unheard of. Amazing musician. He went on to form Cactus in the early 70's. Beck, Bogert & Appice was also and unfortunately a short lived great band. YouTube has some very good videos he has done but have yet to find one that really shows his true talent. A good one to watch is the live version of 'Superstition' with Vanilla Fudge at the 2004 RockPalast. To watch him play in person is really something to see and hear. He still plays to this day and has a excellent web site to read more about him. Again, my personal opinion.

The obvious one for me would be Harry Nillson's "Jump Into The Fire". Herbie Flowers is turned loose on this jam.
