Steve LArgent when he retired he held all the of the major pass records.
Jerry rice was one of the first recievers to play his whole carrer with the NFL modified pass rules.
Before 1981 50 catch would get you in the pro bowl. Now you would finish second or thrid on your team with 50 catches.
Most of the leagues top receiver would be average at best in the 60's and 70's.
How many passes would Steve LArgent caught if the DB could not touch him.. In the old day you could hit a recievers as much as you want until he was 5 yards down field. TO is one of the few that could play back then because he is and fast,
Bambi was pretty good too.
If you do not know how Bambi was ask you father. He was one of the greatest receivers of all time also.

Steve Largent, no question. Before Rice came along, he was the best receiver period, and owned all the records in the mid to late 1980s.
Largent was small, but had decent speed. He was renowned for great routes. Most importantly, however, this guy was probably the most sure-handed receiver to ever play the game. You could count career drops on one hand. He was also very durable and tough over the middle, taking big hits.
Before Largent, there were others, belitnikov, Maynard, Berry, etc.
Largent is still a top-5 all-time receiver. I would rank him right behind Jerry Rice and Chris Carter.

Steve Largent, who had a claim as the all-time best of any ethnicity by the late 1980s, before Jerry Rice and other recent players passed him up.
Other candidates from before 1970 are Lance Alworth and Raymond Berry. Old timers can't praise Alworth enough.
More recently Ed Macaffrey of the Broncos was really becoming awesome by 2000, but injuries did him in.
...Yes I did forget Fred Belitnikoff, king of Stick-um, if they name a trophy after you, you must not suck.

Steve Largent was great, not arguing that point here. But many of you have overlooked Fred Biletnikoff. He is, hands down, one of the best WR's EVER of any race. Look up info on him, you'll be amazed.
