My friend Charlie has liked me for a long time. He recently told me that he liked me alot. How do I tell him I don't like him like that without ruining our friendship?

You meet him in private and you give him a big hug and "lock him" in your bear hug mode...If he is bigger/wider then sitting down and you leaning your head on his shoulder will do. Whatever you do, make sure you are in a cute like position, as close as possible and avoiding face to face contact...Now tell him this:
You are the best! I like how you(fill blank).... and this .. and this about you... and my biggest fear would be that if we go out and it doesnt work, I will lose your precious friendship. I know you are gonna say thats not gonna happen but no one knows and its a risk I WILL NOT TAKE. I really like your friendship because (add reasons here) and I WILL NOT WANT TO LOSE YOU.
I really hope we can stay friends.
Then you wrap it up by talking a walk or something small, not awkard and tryt your best to get back to a not too private place that way he does not make a scene, get angry or cries

This happened to me and I'm sorry to say the friendship ended because of it. So it's probably safe to NOT do what I did... I wrote the guy a letter saying sorry I wasn't interested in a very caring gentle let down kinda way. I then didn't call him for a few weeks. When I saw him again he didnt want to know me anymore, even as friends.
Maybe tell him and then keep in touch so he doesnt feel dumped by you???

Any thing do with, this kind of situation is difficult it has happened to be four times. Now leave it to the guy, tell him directly, and kindly, and honestly how you feel, in this case your his friend and will always be, and hope he realises this. It a guy thing, they need to realise that they can love their females friends without being sexual or otherwise attracted to them.
Its not you its them, all part of growing up whatever the age, 15 or 30 what ever. So just tell him, the truth reality, he need to understand it. You are friends and it o.k to be a good female friend and love your friends, not just a sexual or otherwise.
Please be honest with him if you love him as a friend and respect him.

Be kind. Tell him that you value his friendship but that you don't have any romantic feelings for him. And make sure you aren't passing up a great relationship. The best romances start as friendships.

Just tell him that you don't and get over with it. But don't be harsh you still want to be friends. But do not leave him hanging that would be worst. Also don't do something like try ignoring him that makes things worst. Just tell him the truth. If he's a true friend he would know and understand.

Tell him you like him a lot too but not romantically. He deserves to know the truth even if it means the end of your friendship.

plain and simple, say you like him as a friend. Dont be suprised if any more of your guy friends do the same. MOST males are frineds with females because they want them more in some way.

play it off nicely and thank him for any comments that he might have said. everytime you guys hang out, start voicing your opinions about what you look for in a guy.
i.e. checking out guys that walk by... you can tell him that he's kinda cute
-when a guy has a dirty attitude... you can tell him that you'd never be with a guy like that
... sometimes you can try and be on the look out for any girls he might think are attractive and tell him.
