This is very normal. They are shy animals and like to hide. She may be going into shed as well.

P.S. Do not buy a hot rock these are not good for snakes. They tend to lie on them and burn themselves. I have seen too many painful burn wounds on rescued snakes. It's very sad. If anything get an undertank heater, this way their bellys stay warm.

Ball pythons are from Africa there is no winter there. they will explore every inch of the cage looking for a place to escape I have never seen a ball python try to burrow is the heat pad on that side of the tank? It might just be trying to get closer to the heat source if so you need to raise the air temperature in the terrariums to around 90 degrees in the daytime and around 75 at night If I were you I would buy a good book or use the internet to learn alittle more about your ball there great snakes

Ball Pythons don't burrow. More than likely, the hides you gave your snake are too small. They like a tight, dark, confined space where they can feel the sides of the hide when they're coiled up. It might also be too bright for them if you use a light for heat.

If light isn't a problem, you can make a nice hide by cutting a hole either in the side or top of the plastic drip tray that you use under planter pots.

Good luck!

My ball does that once in a while. Now more then ever I believe it's because of the weather. But our vet said that they enjoy the moisture under there. That's why we are told to spray the heated part of the tank with water daily. just a couple of sprays. is all they need. But the moisture collects and it gets all nice and toasty under there. It could also be they just want to get away from the light. But i'd ask a vet like mine who takes care of nothing but reptiles!

you need shavings in the bottom of the cage. she needs to be able to burrow or so what ever she needs to do. just because she has a place to hide doesnt mean she doesnt want to be under something

My snakes have always tried to crawl under the carpet. You can glue it down, but then it's hard to clean. I would remove the carpet and only use bark.
Also, does your snake have a hot rock? That's pretty important, because they need heat on their belly to digest their food.
