The best chance for conception is from intercourse that takes place in the few days leading up to ovulation, with the "peak" day considered to be on the day before ovulation. Because the egg, once released, lives for only a matter of hours, while the sperm can survive in a fertile environment for as long as 5 days and also requires time to get to the fallopian tubes, ovulation day is actually not the "best" time when it comes to timing sex.

A woman is only fertile for about 48 hours - from the moment you ovulate. After that, the egg dies off and it is too late. However, sperm can live inside of the female for 5 -7 days or so - which means that if you have sex before you ovulate, the sperm may still be there when you ovulate and conception can take place.

You should know right off that every woman is different. Normally you ovulate within 7 - 10 days after your period ends. Eggs can stay viable for up to 72 hours, so there is always room for some leeway when getting pregnant. Like I said every woman is different. I personally know when I'm ovulating because I get a kind of discharge at that time of the month. Ovulation kits are the best if you want to really get more accurate. Don't stress about getting pregnant. That in itself can back fire on you. Just relax and let your mind and body think that you're OK if you don't get pregnant. I've known quite a few women who have just resigned themselves to thinking 'it'll happen when it happens', and sure enough within 2 - 3 months, they were pregnant!! Good Luck!!

It can happen by having sex mostly 4 days before and the day after ovulation. But something interesting 60% of women get pregnant the night of the full moon. But it also depends on what you are referring to. Te egg gets fertilized a few days after ovulation, and it takes seven to ten days for it to implant. Or the first day of pregnancy is actually the first day of your last period when you are not pregnant at all. Hope one of those answers your question.

A girl is generally most fertile for about 2 days out of her cycle. But don't forget that sperm can live in a vagina for up to 2-3 days. So if she isn't ovulating, has sex, and has semen waiting around for two days...and on that day she ovulates...well, she could get pregnant then.
