Most Americans are not patriotic but are instead nationalistic, the first being, in the case of a U.S. citizen, a loyal feeling for and identification with the founding principles of pluralism and democracy, whereas the second being a less sophisticated "football team" mentality of abstracted loyalty and identity based merely upon group affiliation.

In my opinion, Americans hardly ever think for themselves. They, or rather we, just agree to everything we hear. Though a lot of people have flags in front of their houses and most schools have American flags in every class, it's a weird sort of fascist patriotism. If you disagree with the government, you are considered a traitor. And most Americans are not truly patriotic, it's more for show. Other countries tend to have little of these material things, but still more of the REAL patriotism.

Patriotism here in the states seems to be turning into nationalism, where our needs and wants are the only ones that matter. Combine that with the Bush administration's continued efforts to turn our democracy into a theocracy, and a scary picture starts to develop. Yes our country is great and no I don't want to be anywhere else. Our country is also fallible, and rather than gloat over how superior America is (to Iran? Iraq? Is that even a fair comparison?) I wish a majority would focus on making it better. We're turning into our own worse enemy.

Very patriotic, especially after looking at the nonsense on the news etc I have seen a few here in Aus. and they seem quite arrogant and superior. Besides that i think you only need to look as far as this website to see how patriotic they are.

i'm from the U. S.. i think of it is an exciting question partly because of the fact our democracy very almost expects voters to whinge and stay on issues they dislike with regards to the U. S.. That suggested i think of very few people might commerce with every person else. additionally, i think of maximum tend to take care of US existence style, customs in the event that they're under attack by technique of "outsiders". i don't be attentive to that that makes us extra or much less patriotic than different voters. keep in mind there are extremely some countries the place patriotism isn't a decision! that is confusing to choose.

If you're English you are patriotic,if you are Welsh,Scottish or Irish you are a Nationalist.I think everyone is patriotic in their own way,e.g Englishmen will wear the Union flag as underpants...can't see an American doing that with the stars and stripes.

I'm from Holland, lived in various parts of Europe before coming to the US.

No, Americans are not (especially compared to the Swiss) it's just that many of us here wear their patriotism on their sleeve.

Americans are patriotic of their country as it is with the land and people, not neccessarily patriotic of their government. Alot of foreigners patriotism rises when america is mentioned because of the kind of people we are. Always proud and winners and butt kickers of the world.

I personally think we are somewhat among some of the least patriotic countries, compared to others. Many Americans need to be more patriotic, and political, and me being one of them. But then again I think we are far more patriotic than some countries as well.....so maybe its about even.

I'm from Minnesota, US.

Americans are really patriotic but in a rather facist way because anykind of disagreement with the goverment or its policis is seen as unpatriotic which is common on facists regims.
