It's called "divide and conquer." If you can keep the masses divided, they are more easily conquered. So if you want to know who benefits from a particular division that has been created and/or exploited, just look at who is currently fanning the flames - and you will know who is on the "conquer" side of the equation.

So, in this case...several business interests, I would suspect especially in oil/energy, pharmaceutical, certain media outlets, insurance companies (ever wonder why we are the ONLY civilized country that does not provide all of our people with basic, decent health care?) and probably many others benefit from it as well.

But more than anyone, of course, are the politicians themselves. They LOVE all the bickering. The reasons are so numerous I don't even want to get into it. But it is so obvious that they are the ones who benefit the most of all. Just remember, as long as they have us all convinced that they are the only two "real" choices, then they are locked into power and we have no real choices about who governs us - basically the definition of "conquered."

Quite a few gain benefit from it. For the Republicans and Democrats, it helps to obscure the fact that there is virtually no fundamental difference between them. Whenever one side or the other finds its "base" is slipping away, they collude with the other party to raise some highly emotional, yet meaningless in the great scheme of things, issue that will receive just enough support and just enough opposition to insure it will not be resolved and will be available the next time they need it.

Special interest groups gain membership and increased donations.

For the media, it's a constant, cheap, source of material. Instead of paying expenses for a reporter to actually go out in the world and "work" a story, they can hire some flunky to re-write press releases from his desk.

HAHAHA It ain't like that during New Zealand, it somewhat is any incorrect way around! The Labour's (left wingers) are somewhat masculine, stay out interior the rustic, and so on and the Nationals (genuine wingers) are the psychological elite from the suburbs and city aspects.

I guess no matter how wrong something is, the war in Iraq, we should all just sit and smile and nod our heads in agreement? You can, I won't. It benefits me to voice my opinion and I suspect many others feel the same since there are many, many people on here doing just that.

The rest of the world benefits, as we tear each other apart. Creating a divided, partisan country. Divide us and we are easy to conquer. If we all stood together, regardless of beliefs, or occupations, or status, then none would overcome us.

The government wins...We're too busy fighting each other while they keep slipping us bad laws, rasies for themselves while they do less work, and a divided country is less likely to realize how badly it's being screwed by it's government.

We all actually benefit from it. If they two sides agreed all the time, we'd be living in a dictatorship! Frank discussion and people voicing their opinions and views is the sign of a healthy democracy!

No one benifits. It's ignorance that keeps them fighting. Most people who aren't ignorant about situations aren't as likely to go bashing the "other side".

I gather you share in the frustrations of most of us who are sick and tired of the continuous mud slinging. Yes, we know that you're upset with eachother. Guh!
