Hey, today was my first day at a new high school and I knew it would be hard coming to a new school in January but i didnt think it would b this hard. I can't find any of my classes, it took forever to get my locker to open and worst of all i don't know anybody! Everyone is already in their own little groups and it doesn't seem like it will get easier.

Is it usually like this the first day? Will it get any easier? How do I make new friends?

Oh honey! I've been there and done that twice! Isn't it awful?? Believe it or not, life will go on. I know this cheesy but it's true. Just give it time. I'm still adjusting and have been living at my dad since July. So I started a new High School in August. It's never easy to forget and leave the friends you once new behind. Believe me. But try not to dwell on them. Easier said than done, I know but just try. They're going to move on without you, more than likey. I wish you the very best of luck. I know you'll probably get this from a lot of people, but you have got to get involved. I'm sure your school has lots of after school sports and clubs. It works like a charm. You'll make new friends instantly, because usually, the cliques aren't as apparent when everyone's working together towards a common goal, whether you're on the basketball team, or the yearbook committee. Since you are new, ask someone for help finding a classroom, or if you do join a club, ask what it's all about at your first meeting. Just striking up a conversation can work wonders.

Yes and Yes.

Making new friends is always hard. The new clicks look unbreakable and very unwelcoming.

This is the point where you need to suck up you fear of rejection and take a plunge. Human beings make snap judgements about people based to looks all the time, so take a look around and find a click that seems to share your tastes, values, or whatever else your looking for... or if your looking to change your public image (new schools are great for this) look for the group that you would like to be. Once you identified a group go talk to them. Ask to sit/eat/study with them and begin engaging in conversation about possible shared expeiences or likes and dislikes. The more common ground you have the easier it will be to build relationships and eventually friendships.

Or you could look for others who are new to the school and just like you are feeling out of place and alone.

Good luck, and hang in there, most of all be yourself and find people you like you for that. Those are the friends that you can keep for years after high school.

Yes it is usually hard on the first day of school especially if it is in the middle of the year. Don't worry about it because before you know it you will have tons of friends. one way to make new friends is get involved in things that you like that way you will meet new people and there is a big chance that they have the same interst as You!!!!!!

Friends come a dime a dozen so get to know your teachers and familiar with the school and keep a smile on your face and be happy get into your books because when the end of the school year comes u don't want to be left behind with those friends. be your own best friend and get that diploma and move on. there is life after high school

I just moved into a new school recently too. It does get easier once you get to know people. Start talking to the people you sit next to then you will have friends in no time.

Hey it takes guts to change high schools. The layout of the school will come, lockers well (I almost never used mine) and friends, just be nice and do what you love to do. and you'll be fine. Join a club or go to the sporting events just get involved.

I changed schools a lot, it does get better. Just be yourself, don't try to act like a certain group just to get it... being yourself will eventually land you with the right group of people. Look for others who seem like they might share something in common, join after school activites and sports that interest you.

join an after school club or sport, best way to meet people with the same interest, if the groups of people don't want to meet you then it may be their loss
