I had been waiting for Windows Vista to be released so I could buy a laptop with Vista already installed. But now that I have been doing some research, it looks like Vista is going to be alot like Mac OSX. So now I am torn.

I will mainly be using my laptop for watching movies, some video editing, and uploading pictures from my digital camera. I use my computer right now for storing 2000+ pictures. Soon, I will be heading off to college so I will be using my laptop for PowerPoint presentations, essays, internet research, etc. So kind of laptop do you recommend? And can I use my laptop for internet anywhere I please? I also heard of a mac Leopard? Should I wait around for that to come out now?

It's amazing how little PC users know about the Mac. Macs cost more to maintain and upgrade? That's a huge myth. I can buy the same old PC parts to put in my MacBook Pro. It sounds as though a Mac would be perfect for your computing needs. iLife '06 has everything you need to edit videos and manage photos. iWork can create PowerPoint compatible slideshows. Personally, I think Keynote is better than PowerPoint. You can use your MacBook or MacBook Pro to access any WiFi hotspots. Unlike Windows notebooks, Mac OS X automatically connects to the strongest available wireless network. You're right, Vista is nothing more than a blatant copy of Mac OS X Tiger. Sadly, Vista will be released at roughly the same time as Apple's new Mac OS X Leopard, meaning that Vista will be obsolete within weeks. I, myself, have over 2,000 photos in my iPhoto library. iPhoto is great for managing massive photo libraries, as well as editing and presenting those photos. You shouldn't have to wait for Mac OS X Leopard, as it will only cost around $120. I absolutely love my MacBook Pro. It's my third Mac after switching from ten years of PC usage.

It depends on your personal preference. Waiting for vista or leopard is not really necessary, because most pc venders will give you an upgrade option now, and when osx came out they offered it for free to people who had bought macs before osx came out, and I'm sure they will do the same with leopard. I personally feel that macs are the best, based on my limited experience with a mac mini, which so far has not been perfect, but has vastly outdone every pc I have ever owned as far as compatibility with 3rd party hardware and overall user experience. In other words, my mac mini recognizes literally anything I can hook up to it without any installation of drivers, and it is easy and enjoyable to use. That said, I'm sure you would also enjoy a high quality pc laptop, the lenovo thinkpad comes to mind, they are excellent laptops for sure. If I were you I would look at both and don't be afraid to go with one or the other because they will both serve your needs quite well. In my humble opinion -- If you don't find a pc that just makes you swoon, the mac is the way to go!

I have both a Windows and a Mac laptop, and I would really think you should get the Mac laptop, there is (and it is not very expensive) Microsoft Office for Macintosh, and it works just as Office for Windows works. The plus to Mac computers is that they will give you the best screen resolution, they are great for Media editing (iLife for simple things and Final Cut for more professional use), they are very reliable when it comes to Internet connections, they are very user-friendly. You can use Windows on Mac computers, with the help of Boot Camp (for more information on Boot Camp check Apple's website) or Parallels.

in my opinion , it is better to get a pc since there were features the same with apple mac and at the same time if your computer crashes , you will not having a hard time to find parts as well as the maintenance is much lower than apple mac. having windows vista in your pc requires a "hybrid" components of pc isn't? so it is much easier for you to upgrade if whenever there is another operating system much better than vista... good day...

I personally prefer PC's, since they are easier to upgrade and repair by oneself. One thing you may want to check into is the networking situation at your college, and what types of machines and operating systems they use. For me, XP is plenty, and I wouldn't be in a big hurry to upgrade to Vista. There are very few device drivers availible at the moment, and some fairly serious compatability issues.
