Can someone give me an example of a good box turtle habitat? Indoor or outdoors.?

What size habitat and what bedding should I use for a three-toed box turtle in New Orleans temperatures?

I would make it at least 4x4 ft. with 2 ft.walls(and an 18 inch board sunken into the ground around the perimeter so the turtle can't dig out.)For bedding,ordinary garden soil mixed with some leaf litter and moss will do fine,the turtle will mix it up by digging and crawling through it.You'll need a shallow water dish.(A flowerpot saucer works nicely),some logs and a hide box(half a hollow log works well),and a food dish.The advantages of being outside are many.The turtle can hunt for bugs in it's enclosure(you can also stock it with earthworms);it will benefit from natural sunlight and fresh air,and it will get exercise.My 8 turtles share a 6x10 ft,enclosure and they love it,but being in Ohio,I have to bring them in during the winter,so they are happy to go back out in April or May.It's nice that you are concerned for your turtles well-being.Good luck with him/her.Oh,if you have raccoons or opossums in your vicinity,you might want to put a heavy screen on top of the enclosure,or bring the turtle in at night.

My Boss and his wife have had box turtles in their back yard for years! They've had babies and everything. They just put rail road ties in the ground a couple inches and made a pen. They stay out all year and hibernate when winter comes. They say they have learned to recognize her when she comes down to feed them and start walking to her! Good Luck with it. Oh, she digs worms to feed them.

field turtles are no longer hard to maintain as I surely have had one for 22 years. I surely have mine in a tank and have a basking spot, 0.5 logs for hiding, a water dish for it to bypass in, flowers and you form of get the belief.
