I have always had heavy periods. The last couple of months have been unbearable, the amount of blood and the pain, it's not cramps, but a different pain. Last month I bled for 22 days. I don't have a regular doctor, I don't have insurance and I go to the health department, where I see whoever is on duty that day. I am getting insurance information from my job but for the time being, if I get to bleeding too bad would they look at me like an idiot if I went to the hospital?
I use super plus tampax, how many would you say are way too many and I should go. At the moment I am having to change every 10 min. or less.

If you're in college, you can go to your college medical center for free.

How old are you? Have you consider going on the pills? Making decisions about birth control, or contraception, is not easy. There are many things to think about. Women who take the pills are usually on them to help them regulate their cycles.

Have you tried taking ibuprofen?

Menstrual cramps can be treated with ibuprofen, stretching exercises or the application of heat through such means as warm baths or heating pads.

I have a cyst on my ovary and my gyno put me on the pill and it helped regulate my cycle as I was bleeding heavily too b/c the cyst interfered with the normal functioning of the cycle. She did and ultrasound to find the cyst and wrote me a prescription for generic birth control because that is what my insurance will cover. Tell the doctor at the department the problem and see if they will help you if not, try planned parenthood or generations health center, if they have those low cost health centers where you are located. They helped me when I took a semester of school off and was not covered by my fathers insurance. Good Luck.
