Yes, it really can help.
Your partner's semen has prostaglandin in it, when can stimulate the cervix to "ripen," or soften and thin out. (Various types of prostaglandin medications are used when preparing a woman for induction of labor.)
Prostaglandin also can cause you to have some cramping, which is why many women experience this after sex. In some cases it can even lead to labor.
Orgasm also is thought to help, for reasons that are less clear.
Physical activity can help.
Castor oil, sometimes can help, but often it just makes people SICK.
Nipple stimulation probably won't cause labor, but can hurry it along once you start. Worth a try, though; it's free.
Raspberry leaf tea may have some effects.
An enema! If you're desperate, this really can help.
Please don't do any of this (except the sex) unless you are full term.
Good luck!

Having gentle, loving sex can help labor come on. Human semen is the most concentrated source of prostaglandins, the substance that Cervidil, Prepidil and Cytotec (drugs to induce labor) try to mimic. this hormone and the drugs I just mentioned with the synthetic hormone, soften the cervix and lower part of the uterus. This helps you become fully effaced and dialated.

Castor oil is great to get things going. Start with breakfast. Stay hydrated. It may also get other things down there moving out, if you know what I mean.

Many midwives can recommend homeopathic remedies to kickstart labor.

Accupuncture is great, too.

So is walking around.

And, yes, babies come when they are ready.

Two days before my due date I walked around the mall for a couple of hours, sat in a massage chair for a while in one of the stores, and took a gentle laxative. At 7a.m. the next morning my contractions were 10 minutes apart, and my son was born later that evening.

I've heard that too and i don't know if it really works. I suggest have sex anyway just for enjoyment. Your baby will come along when he/she is ready and nothing you do will make it faster. Trying all the crazy things will make the time go by quicker as long as you understand that they really don't work so you aren't disappointed. Don't drink wine, your baby will get wine as well and that's not good for anybody.

the book i have been reading said that only women who are high risk pregnancies having sex will make you go into labor and i guess high risk are women who are under weight and women who have had pre term pregnancies (which don't carry all the way to term 40 weeks) Myself, i was 3cm at 42 weeks and had sex....walked .... and nothing happened so you could try but don't count on it.

My doctor told me that walking, sex, all that stuff was wives' tales.....labor starts when it starts.

Your uterus does contract if you have an orgasm, but not hard enough to start labor...if it works, you would have gone into labor anyway.

Sex is good, but my doc told me that it isn't the sex per se, its the sperm. Walking is good too. I walked to the neighborhood store at 6pm, and started having contractions at 10pm

It's actually the sperm that helps bring on labor, from what I've heard.
