What is currently the best computer I can get for about 1500-1700 US dollars, including a monitor? I need wireless adapter, cd burner, and a decent video card good enough for casual gaming.

Check out CompRec.com, they have specs for several different desktops and laptops. Choose one and then compare prices at different manufacturers. With a consistant set of specs you can compare apples-to-apples from different manufactuerers.

My kids first computer was a HP , they never had any problems, when they moved out and took the computer with them, I got a Dell and was on the phone with support constantly. I now have my own HP and I really like it, no problems at all. ( had to call tech support once in a year, for something stupid that I did)

Mac's are no good for gaming they may have the hardware but not the selection of games. I suggest either building your own pc or building one on a site like cyberpower. (www.cyberpowerinc.com).

I vote for the iMac. It has everything you are looking for+ the excellent Core2Duo processor.
