SHEEP GREEN, HASLINGDEN, LANCS.
1. It certainly existed in the nineteenth century, and had an active community of small businesses.
a) Pigot's 1828 Directory for Lancashire
"Clare, Eliz, Has, Sheep Green, joiners & cabinet makers"
"Green, Peter, Has, Sheep Green, coopers"
"Green, Wm, Has, Sheep Green, coopers"
"Jenkinson Richard, Has, Sheep Green, boot and shoemakers"
"Pickup Edmund, Has, Sheep Green, shopkeeper"
"Schofield Wm, Has, Sheep Green, boot and shoemakers"
"Spurr, Wm, Has, Sheep Green, attorneys"
"Walton Wm, Has, Sheep Green, tailors"

b) It still existed at the time of the 1871 Census:
"Sheep Green, Haslingden, Lancashire:
John RICHARDSON, Lodger, Married, 32, Hawker, born Essex, Maldon"

2. Here is a large map of Haslingden c.1890. I have looked through it twice, but don't see Sheep Green. I suppose there are then two possibilities (a) Sheep Green was developed or renamed in the intervening years, (b) Sheep Green was/is located outside this area.

3. This webpage may give a clue to the location.
"Daniel [Lonsdale] was born in 1750. In 1781 he was granted land from Sheep Green Pits to Dearden Waste, by the Manor of Tottington. In 1783 he was churchwarden at Haslingden. In 1784, with his brother John, he purchased land at Sheep Green. In 1800 he surrendered the croft in Haslingden and, with his brother Edmund, bought land from Lord Ribblesdale for £455.

Note that: Dearden GATE is mentioned in the 1828 directory
4. Here is the location of Deardengate.
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=378595&y=423251&z=1&sv=deardengate&st=6&tl=Deardengate,+Haslingden,+Rossendale,+Lancashire,+BB4&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf
And you can see it in the 1890 map.
5. There are a Dearden Clough and a Dearden Fold in nearby Edenfield.
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=380104&y=418926&z=1&sv=dearden+fold&st=6&tl=Dearden+Fold,+Ramsbottom,+Edenfield,+Bury,+Lancashire,+BL0&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf
Hmm ... this is getting nowhere ... and fast!
6. OK I tried, but failed. I suggest you ask the Lancashire County Archaeological Service, its contact details are here:
