Tomorrow is my first guitare lesson and I'm so excited. Will I understand? Is it hard? I've heard people who know talking about playing guitar and I couldn't understand a bit and I'm kind of afraid.

Anything you do with your body your body will adapt Think of it like riding a bike. You'll feel strange for a while trying to hold the pick, pushing down on the neck of the guitar.. It's like riding a bike except over and over and over each time a different kind of feel . Don't give up My first time was exciting too I'm sure ,but I can't recall exactly when that was, because I'm having more satisfaction then ever and it just keeps getting better. So hold on, go for it and also sometimes you might want to just leave it alone .That's OK. Because once you had the feel ,that's when a beautiful friendship begins you'll never break up! You'll be glad you decided to hang through the rough times, because the good times only get better. Oh yeah and think of patterns .For one song you play you visualize a snapshot of all the places you will put your fingers on. That always helped me. Hey .remember you can do it! Nomatter what you think about yourself You have the right to rock!

if you don't understand then that is why you are going. i have been playing guitar for over 3 months now, and it is a little awkward being around some guy who can play a ton of cool stuff when you suck. i didn't prepare. in fact, i barely ever touched the guitar before i went. it starts out easy. he'll probably give you some tabs to "work up your chops" and the music that you get in the book will start out really slow and easy. if you really want to prepare then i suppose you could just play around. pick up and down, move your fingers around, press them and get used to the slight pain. good luck and have fun!

The only thing I can think of that you need to do in advance is to make sure the fingernails of your left hand are cut fairy short - or you won't be able to make the chords properly. If you have a good guitar teacher they should explain everything else and take you step by step. It will be hard at first but you will get great pleasure out of it if you perserve. Good luck - enjoy it!

Your teacher will take you slow and/or at your pace.
You're not in a race.
He/she will teach you the notes and frets and give you a few chords to practice.

You can see guitar chords at this site. Go to Guitar room.
chordhouse.com

You can see the fingering and frets for each finger.

Your digit finger =1, middle finger=2, ring finger=3, little finger=4.
CUT YOUR NAILS SHORT. Very short.
Prepare for calluses and a little pain over about a month.
Good luck.

Dont worry about it! Just relax, and if the teacher says something you dont understand, tell them! They'll be glad to go over it again with you. At first it's a little bit weird making the chord shapes, but you'll get used to it after a week or so. Good luck with it!

Make sure that the nails on your fretting hand (if you're right-handed, this is your left hand) are short, or you won't be able to play anything because you won't be able to press the strings down.

A good teacher should guide you through everything - how to hold the guitar, how to tune up etc, so don't worry.
