the year he signed his current contract, the guys on the radio said to 'get ready for 5 more years of mediocrity,' as long as alfredson was on the team (though it was a station out of toronto, and you know how they feel about ottawa ...)

Alfreddson is still an incredible talent, I think he needs a change of scenery from the spotlight in Ottawa to rejuvenate his game. Wouldnt be a bit surprised if the Sens arent shopping him for a quality defenseman. Seems he is burnt out from all the playoff dissapointment and the intense media that likes to lay a fair share of blame on him. Best guess is he gets shipped to a team from the west and rebounds with the same ability fans have grown to enjoy in the past.

I think Alfie is emotionally drained from all the playoff disappointments the Sens have suffered. No longer having the veteran presence of Chara, Havlat, Hasek & Smolinski around, the burden on his shoulders is starting to wear on him. He is also dealing with being a father to an infant at home, so there could be extra pressure off the ice that is affecting his play.

Alfredsson is still dangerous, but I think all of his injuries over the years are beginning to catch up with him. He's not as aggressive as he used to be when he broke into the league.
