A co-worker told me to delete the cookies from my pc before I leave work. Is that that same as deleting everything from the history folder?

No, it isn't. History is the list of sites you have visited on the Internet. Cookies are the information that the website collects from your computer when you visit those pages. Particularly if you register and have to sign in.

You can remove cookies and history along with unneeded files (temporary cache files) by clicking on "tools" "Internet options", then "delete files", "delete cookies", and "delete history."

Hope that helps.

No ... cookies are little data bites that come from different websites. According to ciac.org, "a cookie is a short piece of data, not code, which is sent from a web server to a web browser when that browser visits the server's site. The cookie is stored on the user's machine, but it is not an executable program and cannot do anything to your machine."

You need to go to the Control Panel, select Internet options, then when you see the General Tab options, hit the Delete tab under Browsing History. That will bring you to a list of delete options, where you can hit delete under the cookies section.

History is a list of sites where you have been. Cookies are small text files that the sites leave behind. You can delete them in XP by right clicking Internet Explorer, choosing properties, and hitting "Delete Cookies". You can alternatively delete all files in the folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\*username here*\Cookies

Right click on your web browser icon on your desktop, click properties, then delete under browsing history, and you have the option to delete various things. Select delete all, as the computer you're using is public, and that will delete your browsing history and cookies, as if you haven't used the browser yet. This procedure is for Internet Explorer 5 and 7.
