I don't really know, but it probably has got something to do with the fact that we only remember 80% of what we've learned during the day. Like that we can't really store all too much information. And did you know that after 30 minutes does what you've put in your short-term memory move into the long-term memory.

I know this let's see if I can jog my memory....Okay..
Trauma (good or bad) tends to lodge itself in your long term memory banks.Hereditary and lifestyles play a big part here. And surface when an incident happens that reminds you of a similar experience. Chemicals, like drug abuse alcohol, diseases like Alzheimer, and other forms of dementia, rely on long term memory. This is still not understood.
Short term memory is basically explained by the terminology used, it is too new or unfamiliar, for us to remember. The sparks of short term memory, dissipate easily because of lack of interest, attention deficit,or we just didn't grasp what was just said ... so consequently it is lost (forgotten).

rite.. all the information goes into ur short term sensory store (everything).. ur short term memory sorts stuff into relevant n irrelevant (this deals with the present and can only hold several things).. the relevant stuff gets sent to the long term memory where a motor programme is made so u can recall stuff and do the same thing again.. so if u want stuff to go to ur long term memory then mek sure ther is no useless things distractin u so its easier to focus on the stuff u want to stick :) hope it helps x

To be in the long term memory we must use information repitively. Short term information can become long term if it is repeated and reviewed, if it is not used it will be forgotten.

If an incident affects a person emotionally then its usually instilled in your memory very strongly, where if not you have the tendancy to let go of the issue.
