Isn't that what rabbits do? Isn't that why there are so many rabbits?
Have you ever seen a depressed rabbit?

A rabbit will molt, or shed, it's coat usually twice a year. They will shed their summer coat to grow a thicker warmer coat, and then shed the winter coat into the cooler summer coat.
However, stress and temperature changes can alter this pattern to more times then twice, and at varying lengths of time.
A molt will be a MAJOR loss of fur. Even to the point that you will see it coming out in clumps, and they seriously look like they are having a "bad hare" day. Your assistance in keeping this loosening hair combed regular is very important.
Shedding can occur in just visually seeing hairs in the cage/drop pan. The rabbit may not neccesarily need combing, for the hairs are falling off easily on their own.
There are other factors than stress and temperature that can affect molt/shedding. Believe it or not, what you feed you rabbit can also affect his molting pattern/regularity!!
Too high of a fat/energy content in the rabbits diet will increase molt. So definately keep the fat content down to reduce the molting process.

Rabbits molt four times a year, alternating a heavy and light shed. If there has been a drastic temperature change, that would trigger your rabbit to shed the extra fur.

They all have their own shedding pattern. Some just lose a few hairs at a time, and some all of a sudden look like a dandelion gone to seed, complete with bare patches. They should only molt a couple of times a year, but molts can be triggered by stress or changes in feed.

Rabbits molt, not shed.
Some rabbits molt out their coat in chunks of fur and others do so more nicely and it comes out gradually.

I never knew that rabbits molted... I thought they shed...
Is he brown? I'd call him a 'malted milk ball' or a Whopper!!
Could be just he's been nervous or scared very recently... and it's just made him start losing fur...
