I have a laptop. i have work related programs on it so i can't just take it to just anyone. the problem is i don't have a copy of the programs so i can't afford to lose them in the process. i am trying to find a way where i can copy my Win2000 harddrive and restore it on another (physical) harddrive that has Win98 and is going to be partitioned to the back section of the harddrive so i can keep both Win98 and Win2000. 2k won't run some of the programs that i have on my 98 and vice versa. i am tired of swapping harddrives as well as it sometimes is a pain because i have to handwrite some of the info from one program in 98/2000 and then from my notes build another template on another program in 98/2000. Any suggestions??????

Thanks

Put the other hard drive in an enclosure, using it as a usb or firewire external hard drive.

First - is your 2000 set at NTFS or FAT? If it is NTFS, Windows 98 will not be able to read the information on the HDD. Windows XP has both NTFS and FAT capabilities.

Otherwise, the best program to do this is Norton's Ghost. Ghost will copy everything from your HDD to another HDD exactly as it is on your current HDD. It is really simple to use.

You can dual boot a PC. You need to load Windows 98 first, then load Windows 2000. MS has articles you can use to create a dual bootable machine. This way you can boot into the OS you need at the time of use. I have 3 HDD's in my PC. Two are NTFS formatted, one is still FAT (it was my original W98 HDD) and I can get all my files from any of the HDD's without rebooting (I don't have my PC on Dual-boot). The only program that I had trouble with was an old PC game that was FAT32. But, that was minor.

you can do it but it would require software to buy. You can use partition magic on the windows 98 machine and create a partition of unused disk space using the free space on the disk. Then use norton Ghost to ghost the Windows 2000 hard drive and then push that ghost image onto the free partition on the 98 machine. it would be rather tricky so if your are unsure about how to do it you should use someone with exp to help you. After you did all that it would be hard to fix the boot sector to see the windows 2000 partition so you can boot to both.

Buy and install Norton Ghost. Make an image of your hard drive, and restore the image to a different drive.
