I prefer his older films because he doesn't do comedy anymore. I first started watching him in Bosom Buddies, then his movies in the 80s were comedies as well (Big, Splash, Bachelor Party, Dragnet, etc). I tend not to like dramas... I want to go to the movies to be entertained and escape from the dramas of real life for a while.

The 80s Tom is totally different from the 90s Tom. I think he was smart to take on more serious roles before the public turned against his type of humor (it happens to all comedians and comedy actors/actresses). Big was the apex of his abilities as a comedic actor and I think he may have received some awards for it (maybe an Oscar nod, too). I enjoy most of his films regardless.
And, as a human being, if Philadelphia doesn't move you, you're either prejudiced or pure evil. The last scene where that haunting song is playing and the camera is panning around the room and comes to rest on a TV showing a video of his character as a child is devastating.

He has done very good films up the The Ladykillers which points out why do a Hollywood remakes of classic British films and just leave them a lone an over good example of classic British films made in to a bad remake is The Italian Job

I loved his comedies too. I don't think he is just after Oscars though, else he would not have taken the Da Vinci Code role. Which btw, I don't blame his performance on him - this was entirely from direction.
The Money Pit was funny.....I agree though Big was brill.

I like most of his movies. I think my favourite was Toy Story though. I know what you mean about wanting as Oscar all the time. I guess since he's proven himself as a big star that he can accept whatever roles we wants now.

All of them..... Castaway, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, The Money Pit, Saving Private Ryan, and more recently The Polar Express. He's fantastic whatever film he's in and gives his all. One of my favourite actors!

I agree Big is a timeless classic as is Sleepless in Seattle. Will we be able to say the same about You've Got Mail in 20yrs time? I don't think so!
