There's a quilt instruction book on Amazon called "Daddy's Ties" by Shirley Botsford, and another called "Ties Ties Ties: Traditional Quilts from Neckties" by Janet B. Elwin. She has another book out called "Necktie Sampler Blocks," also on Amazon. You could also use them to make a log cabin quilt, cutting the ties into long strips.

Me Too!!? I lived about an hour away from an Amish community for about eight years and we always enjoyed going over there to shop for material and chocolate!! Beautiful quilts. I made a very simple 12" by 12" square quilt for me & my husband's bed when I was about 26 and it was just calico material, a piece of polyester quilt like stuff and a bed sheet I had. I sewed it together and tied each corner with a knot of yarn ( we were so poor) and I had that quilt as an extra blanket from the time my son was 3 till he left for college with it at 18 and had it till he was at least 21! He loved that quilt so much from the time he was 3 to at least 25!! lol! What a great memory...it was so simple and cheap and it lasted so long!!He said he liked it because it was warm, but he is somewhat sentamental and it was seriously falling apart last time I saw it!. Ya know I have to ask him if he still has it? This subject reminds me of the movie, " Making of An American Quilt"? Did you ever see that movie...it's good. Thanks for the walk down memerie lane!

I agree with the person who suggested the book "Daddy's Ties" . It's a great book and offers some really offbeat other ideas for uses of the ties.

Lots of them. Try a search on about.com or http://www.quilterscache.com

You can cut them up and piece them into any pattern, or you can make a dresden design from them.
