people whom take care of the ederly. Most of the time if you was to a question about a pt care or feelings on the daily living the best answer would come from the cna beside the only time a rn or lpn is present is when the cna state a problem or when a pt request one but if they ring the bell and state the problem the lpn or rn will still seen the cna to try to aviod the walking that is part of the job and above all this, they even have the nerves to talk to the cna as if the are a nobody on do not matter . which i find very untrue. cna are the back bone of every nursing home, hospital, private care. I think that cna pay need to be raised! more props need to be giving or just let the lpn and rn fill in as a cna for one week and see how thier backs, and feets feel one a giving 40 hours.

As far as CNAs being the backbone of every hospital, well I beg to differ. RNs can certainly do all the things CNAs do, in fact a lot of use started out in the aide role. Besides some hospitals are primary care, meaning the RN provides all the care for the patient. Our ICU, ED and L&D units don't have CNAs at all, the nurses do everything.

However you are right that in nursing homes the lvn or cna is the one who knows the patient best, day in and day out. They generally don't have more than 1-2 RNs working there each shift, at least around here and their jobs are generally adminstrative. Are you under the impression that LVNs and RNs can't do your job? Our backs and feet hurt too we don't all sit around and chart all night - at least I don't.

I don't see CNAs making more than that, the job is menial and unskilled, needing only a 12 week course at a vocational school or county program. Sure the work they do is important, but you can't expect to make the same salary as a college graduate or someone who has specialized skills.

That's true I have relatives that are nurses (lpn) and in nursing homes lpns practically run the place unlike in regular hospital or mental hospitals where rn run the place. I was told that the way some of the nurses talk to the cna's in nursing homes is really sad. But in some place RNs mistreat LPNs. I say its all about class. No matter where you are government, corporations, or nursing homes, politicking is alive and well.
