I've heard the popularity of the Euro in Romania has increased significantly, even though Romania has not officially switched from the RON, until they can stablize their currency.

Does anyone have some cultural expertise on the popularity of the Euro in Romania? Especially in Bucharest.

Euro is popular in Romania, dtue to the fact that a lot of Romanians work in Euro zone countries and send Euro home. Also the accession to the E.U. and the eventual adoption of Euro as a currency this popularity will only increase 10 to 15 years ago, the Deutsch Mark was more in demand in Transylvania than in Bucharest, but now there is no difference between Bucharest and the rest of the country.
Having said that, Euro suffered a significant depreciation over the month of December. It usually does that because of the many homecomers, but now seemingly some weirdo threw an incredible amount of money on the market, causing Euro to hit an all-time low against the Romanian currency.

Of course the Euro is popular in Romania, as it is anywhere, because it is a good and stable economy.

It is always used to purchase large things, like houses, farms, etc...

However, even though Romania is officially in the EU, they still use the "Lei" currency, which is used for cheaper everyday things.

I would say more than 75 per cent of bigger deals are made reffering to the euro while the rest still use dollar as reference (mostly the one who are dealing with US world firms)
