Latinos/Latinas are considered minorites because they are not the majority population of the United States. I will assume you leave in CA or the southwest where there are large Latin populations. If your travel to the other regions of the country, you will find that Latino/a populations are not as high as your hometown. I too am a minority (Black) but I do not get offended by the term.
What offeneds me more is when I am refered to as an African-American. This is a nationallity, not an ethnicity. I was born in L.A., not Africa nor have I ever been to the damn continent. I am an American first, black second, and never African.

I'm a white Mexican! i hate the word "Latino" ...............but i see minorities being the ppl other that the race associated with the country, in which case the USA which was founded by ppl from all over the world brought here by force, obligation, will, or native to the land, does not fall under the right of calling any one group minority due to the diversity in which it was founded, yes the ruling elite have always been highly educated white men with little or no regard for "other" ppl but true to the matter is everyone in the US is either a minority or an American majority

Since there are many races, there will always be minorities and the majority race. Eventuall the caucasian race will be just have the plurality. But at this point, latinos still do not make up the majority of the 300 million people in America.

The word minority doesn't mean an insult. All is is stating is that the majority of the US or wherever you're referring to are not latinos. I'm white and I like latinos, my fiance is Latino. If I go to a latin country, I will be considered in the minority. Will I be offended by this? No, why would I be?

America can have an influx of 90 million Mexicans tomorrow, and Hispanic will still be a minority, because the "white" man is not going to be willing to give up the majority status.
Newly added (since 2000) to the "white" (Caucasian) race is ALL arabs, Indians (from India) and north Africans, so there are people in America with jet black skin that are considered "white" for U.S. Census purposes. The Census determines the majority status. For that matter, Asian babies that are half white, are "white." Black babies that are half white are "black." You tell me the logic?
I'm not giving an opinion, I'm stating facts.

All non-White's are categorized as being "minorities" in America. Unless there are more Latin people living in America than White, you're still a minority.
America has always been into names. From Orientals to Asians, from ****** to African American, and from Red Indian to Native Americans. It's annoying, but that's just part of the culture here.

I believe we will always be called minorities because the nation will always be run by Caucasians. What is amazing is that our race is considered Caucasian by the government but our ethnicity is still Latino. Who is the true minority in this world?

Excellent question! Especially since there are more Spanish speaking countries than French for example! And you don't hear them being called a minority! Sorry, I have no answer, but I'm interested to read with others come up with! Unless of course their racism surfaces!

Um, I think numbers wise they ARE NOT the majority race, caucasions are. Hence MINORITY!!!!!
If this IS NOT what you mean then please explain because I always took it mean numbers in America. Latinos are not a minority in Mexico, but are in the Bahamas where whites are the Miniority also and blacks the majority. Am I wrong???

It's a fish out of water situation... i dnt agree wiv labels but...
A white person in Africa is... a minority
A latino in the U.S... a minority
A black in Mexico... a minority
As they are the "smaller" groups in these places they get labelled, however a latino in Mexico would be a majority.
