I saw on person who would make you a sweater out of your dog's fur on TV, and I thought it was crazy. Then, I got my hands on a slicker brush and attacked my long-heired cat with it, and the shed fur is so freaking soft. The more I think about it the better the idea sounds. Most of us fix our pets, so once they're gone all we're left with is maybe their tags. To have their shed fur collected over time, I think it could be treated like wool and made into yarn, and that would enable you to make something to remember your pet by.

It makes sense when you think about it, but think too hard and it sounds crazy. Either way, anyone know where you could get your cat/dog's fur turned into yarn?

I know there's at least one percon who does it, I saw her on animal planet. And no, I'm not collecting mr. Chip's fur yet.

Why don't you try calling up some of the groomers in your area..they may know of someone who spins dog hair.

I have a lady who has me save hair from certain breeds. She takes it, spins it, and makes sweaters and other things. So, maybe one of the groomers in your area has someone who picks up the hair.

Try a search on pet fur sweaters on google. I did and found alot of sites with people who do this. You'd have to pick one near you and that is best priced. Good luck!

This link btw will make the yarn from your pet, however you need to find someone else to knit the garment.

I've never heard of spin fur to make yarn, Yarn is normally spun from wool. And only Angora breeds, Jersey Woolies and American Fuzzy Lops in rabbits have wool. I don't know about dogs or cats.

Try googling it.
