Dress more mature, Act more mature, talk more mature, hang out with more mature people, don't overdo your makeup. An idea for you would be to watch how some of the people on like Sex in the City dress and act, but don't over do it. Then these people that are calling you immature will really bug you. Ease into it. Start dress different a little at a time. Change the way you talk and act slowly. Use a little makeup and begin to try to hang out around where more mature groups of people hang out on the weekends. Just take your time and work into it and before long no one will think of you that way, but remember not to allow yourself to become snobibish and forget your friends. Get them to do it with you and then your whole group can look more mature. Good luck.

What do you think you're doing that people view as immature?

One of the most immature things for an adult to do would be to giggle at words because of their association with sex organs or bathroom functions. Think Beavis & Butthead.

Acting on impulse is another, especially when acting strongly in a knee-jerk fashion toward another person based on emotions

Being caddy about trivial things, superficiality, etc...

Mature people are:
Independant
Confident
Less succeptible to peer pressure.
Less likely to apply peer pressure.
Not whiners
Less defensive/better at handling criticism.
Has more life experience

It is all in how you carry yourself, if you act mature, people will believe you are. Dress the part, don't wear trendy things, instead try a sophisticated, classic look. Style your hair instead of wearing it in a rubber band ( which often gives away your age). Your silence is your best defense, if you don't know what to say in a situation, smile and be quiet.

I actually have a lot of practice in acting mature, I happen to be a married, parent with a career who still gets i.d ed for 18!! I find that my "babyface" makes people believe I am young.. so I have to act and dress for success ! Good Luck !

You are mensa IQ so HANG in there and you will have all sorts of skinny{{{people working for you and then you will set the rules,,,But with a title and a position and the proper clothes you can look 50 lbs lighter,,,,{weight} example high heels make you look older and slimmer and dark colors and even beige is good and do not break up your color if you have a beige skirt follow through with beige jacket and maybe a plain sweater under neath the jacket and a really cute shorter hair style and no pony tail .

Confidence brings the impression of maturity, but to actually act seem and look more mature will take time. You need to find yourself (corny I know) and know who you are as a person before you will seem mature.

It may just take time or you might push it along a bit by going to a course on hair make up and clothing that suits your body type and coloring - it did wonders for my little sis.

Enjoy 17, 18 is only cool if you smoke (horrible habit) and 19-21 sucks, kinda dull.
Who cares if you're plus sized honey? Work what ya got to get what you want baby! Maturity comes with bitterness and harsh lessons learned. Don't do that to yourself! Surround yourself with like-minded people and enjoy your life. It's the only one you've got.
Other people's thoughts are their troubles, not yours. They've got problems, not you.

Firstly, you should stop saying things like you have this high IQ or i have a cute face with an oversize body and etc etc ... You don't have to prove yourself to other people.

Plus, you should ignore what people think of you. If you think highly of yourself, then other people will respect you more. It's got nothing to do with your appearance. It's the "things" you do that counts.

maybe you are in a community which is immature, and doesnt observes you are not. you dont have to addopt to all kind of ppl.

my mom always told me: who is able for more is able for less, too!

you dont have to act.

i happaned to be 17 when whith a brunch of ppl (21-25yrs) went on a trip. on the last day they found out how old i am, they didnt want to belive it. if it is more important to you to be seen older, than try to find older friends.. but you will happen like me. now i am 22 and have friends of 18. and i enjoy it bec i relieve that period of my teenages what i didnt have... bec i was to serious.....

Move with purpose, speak when you have something to add to the conversation and don't use slang. Enunciate your words. Comb your hair. Don't wear styles that are obviously for a younger crowd (ie emo). Wear closed toed shoes.

people probably see you as immature, becasuse your so hard on yourself - probably trying to fit in, and you don't realize doing the things your doing, saying, and portraying are fake. be yourself...DON'T act any way - just be you. find your passion - what is it that you like to do - do it, and be good at it...maturity will come in it's own time.
