They actually need to be "warmed up" with body heat so the resins in the wood loosen and the "sound box" projects a smoother tone. Husband does it!

Its also to check the tuneing and the strings. Instrument is taken out of a bus, placed in a prep room, case is opened, that is 3 thermal changes, 3 shifts of tune set.
If Play area tempature is 38d F , then the guitaur will or should be taken near the stage, tuned in that tempature and placed on a stand or left in an open case. Dureing all this tuneing and stuff, if a string breaks, you are prepared.

guitars are made of wood .. and they can stretch or shrink depending on conditions .. and this can affect the sound/tone/tuning setup of the guitar ... so you want it to be completely ready otherwise youd be tuning the guitar every 2 seconds
