Good abs helps your posture which is essential to being a good ballet dancer. Think about it, would you pay money to watch someone dance all slumped over?

yes it helps you posture and u need them to kip your self on you toes(especially on pointe)
try this... get on your 'tippy toes' with out flexing you abs... hard right?

i have danced for about 9 years(since i was 5)
and it dose help to have a strong stomach and all the other muscles in your body(calf, thigh, butt, and even arms)

*well ya*

It helps keep your spine straight - you cannot maintain good dance posture with weak abs

it helps you keep center so you can turn better, and look "cleaner" when you dance so your not all over the place. my teacher used to say

"glue your butt, suck your gut, press your ribs, and you know whats up."

haha i also heard it plenty of times from convention teachers and competitions.
