If it is not can u help me find one in this poem?
There are strange and mysterious sounds
When the winds of winter blow,
The long nights are crystal clear and cold,
And the fields and meadows are covered with snow.
The stars are frosty against the sky,
And the wind's whistle is shrill,
As the snow blows against the house
And drifts against the hill.
Yet, I like to see during the winter
A white carpet on the ground,
To plod aimlessly in the deep snow,
where deer tracks abound.
I like to feel the stillness
Of a crisp winter's night,
Watching a full moon rise over the horizon,
Exposing a winter wonderland beautiful and bright.

"the winter...a white carpet on the ground" is a metaphor.
I differ with CTU...
Metaphor says that something *is*
(or implies that it *is*)something else.
Simile says that it is *like* something else.

The stars were frosty against the sky is a metaphor, similes are marked by use of the words like or as, so if it said the stars were like frost agianst the sky it would be a simile.
A white carpet on the ground is a metaphor also.

A metaphor is supposed to illustrate a deeper truth. This piece of prose seems to be merely a description of a winter scene.
If the white carpet is a metaphor, what is the meaning of it? It just sounds like a (rather unimaginative) description of the snow.

First, the "agent" above me has no idea what she's talking about. Metaphors don't use "like" or "as". Similes do. That's why the game (called "simile") is a back-and-forth of things like "Quiet as...." with the answer being "a mouse".
Anyway......
I guess it could be. It's an unclear one. It's really more of just an artistic way to describe it, but I can't think of a particular term of it.
I would actually say the snow being referred to as "carpet" would be more of a metaphor.

Actually, CTU has it backwards - similies do use like or as, while metaphors do not.
So "A white carpet on the ground", in regards to a blanket of snow, would be a metaphor.

No, it is not a metaphor. In fact, there are no metaphors in this poem - only similes. Sorry! :(
Metaphors describe by using "like" or "as;" but similes use neither. For example, "The moon is like a silver coin" is a metaphor; but "the moon is a silver coin" is a simile.
