Why do Bush and other conservatives keep talking about how stem cell research is immoral and stuff? A fertilized egg is not a human being yet!

There is much disagreement over when a bunch of cells become a "person" or human being.
We would have to agree on the definition of 'baby' and human being. On when "something" becomes "someone".
Is it when they are alive? Those cells are alive. When they are growing and absorbing nutrients? Those cells do that.
Is it when the soul enters into the cell cluster? Some people don't believe there is a soul. Yet when someone dies, the body may be all there--- but 'something' is now missing. What is that?

When and how do you distinguish between when it is alright to "harvest cells" or when it is "killing" someone?
Is a baby alive only when it is breathing on its own? What about people temporarily on life support? Or unconscious. Or very very small--- or very young-- or very old?
I don't agree with George Bush on much--- nor with conservative Christians. But I do on this one. I think there is much more to this than "just cells". You are also just cells--- and were when you were in the womb of your mother. And when you were two years old; five years old, etc. Fewer cells, for sure, but it was still the beginning of you!
Most newly pregnant mothers who want their babies will tell you that to them, it is their baby no matter how new or how small.
We're all just cells--- except for the bit of us that holds it all together and gives it all purpose and direction.

Well, when IS it a human being? I know what you mean but just where do you drawn the line and say "ok, now this mass of cells is a human being!". 2 cells? 4? 16? 32? WHAT?

Because separation of church and state is a concept foreign to them. They justify this stance by means of religion. The argument is that there is "potential" for a human life in a fertilized egg, and that is why it is wrong. Keep in mind, it is not uncommon for people from this camp to claim that using a condom (or any form of birth control for that matter) is a form of abortion.?.

Because it WAS a baby. Stem cells are harvested from aborted fetuses. That is why its immoral, a life had to be terminated to harvest the cells for research.
