I was just told by Dr. that I have Polycystic Ovaries. What the heck do I do? I'm miserable. I cannot stay pregnant, I do not have insurance and cannot afford expensive prescriptions. Anyone have any ideas what I can do? I am 24 almost 25. I've been married for 1-1/2 years now. ... this just stinks. Painful cramping, and I have just about every symptom of pregnancy which I was told is a symptom of PCO (Polycystic Ovaries) Please help!

As for Sara Beth. I'm sure you were just trying to be helpful... But, I am definitely NOT irresponsible! Of course I want to be pregnant. and if one of my children were sick.. I'd sell my car to be able to pay for their care! I'm no idiot! My husband and I plan to have everything like that figured out BEFORE we have children! I cannot buy medication now because well.. fertility drugs are SERIOUSLY expensive. and its not worth the money. If it were important, like childcare, I would find a way to pay for it! Even if it meant me living with the bear minimum. I do not plan on having children unless I could provide for them. It's just crazy not to.. Seems like you are assuming... thanks!

I also have PCO. I understand that most of the medications doctors prescribe for this condition are expensive and seeing the doctor to monitor you levels is expesive as well. You might look into diets that are for people with diabetes. Part of the loop with this syndrome is insulin resistance -- there are lots of helpful sites on the internet with information about PCO. You might check out whole foods stores and healthfood stores to see if they might have any books which take a holistic approach to the syndrome. If you are overweight, you should try to lose some weight -- although this might be difficult without managing some of your other symptoms with medication. I have noticed that the closer I am to the weight my doctor recommends that I stay at -- the fewer symptoms I have.
Good luck -- know that you are not alone and that there is hope!

If you do not have insurance why do you want to be preggo??? Did I miss understand your question? If you can not afford expensive prescriptions then you will not be able to afford children. They are really expensive, but well worth it. I have pcos so i sympathize with how you feel... i feel the same way, and I can not conceive. What I do not sympathize with is you irresponsibility you want children and you can not even buy medication. You need to step back and look at the situation form the outside and get the big picture! Babies= Money... what would you do if your child got sick and needed to get medication or go to the doctor... would you tell them nope sorry not today I do not have the money?

I suggest you check out www.soulcysters.com. There are many things you can do to manage your PCOS without having to get onto metformin (a drug originally intended for diabetics but widely prescribed off-label to help women with PCOS). And if your doc thinks metformin is the answer, you can order it very reasonably from Canada... try checking on the internet.
As far as fertility goes, metformin may help you become and stay pregnant. Clomid is what's typically prescribed to women with polycystic ovaries, and it is one of the least expensive fertility drugs... but it will still set you back. The lack of health insurance may not matter in this case, since few states require insurers to provide infertility treatment.

polycystic ovaries is actually very common...every woman has cysts on her ovaries and they go away with time...yours are painful as were mine but they went away and I am fine. I also had two children no problems because of the polycystic ovaries. Take ibuprofen for the pain you can take up to 800mg at a time...that is prescription strength actually. You may also want to try taking an anti-inflammatory to help reduce your symptoms...I have endometriosis on top of that with kidney stones as well. I have constant pain. You don't need expensive meds...and yes you can stay pregnant...

Go to your local welfare office they will provide you with insurance that can pay for the meds you need. Your husband can get on this as well. So this way no matter you both are insured.

Sweetie,,, you need to go to your local social services and apply for medical insurance. If you are pregnant then you sound like you might qualify for WIC(women infants and children). Please take care of yourself. And dont deal with this alone..your married..put some of this burden on you husband too.

Get a job with health insurance, get private health insurance, or set up a business with your husband and get health insurance through your own business.
