You dont really need to have any details, dependent if you are doing something special with your router. But if thats the case, then you would know what you need (ports for example). Reset it and have a ball.

They usually have a hole in the back - you poke with a pen and that resets them back to factory settings. Check the bottom of the router for info. You probably get in using IE and entering ftp://192.168.0.1 and then enter your user name and password. You need to know your login and password for your ISP - generate a new WEP or WPA key and put that in all computers. You give your workgroup a name. The network a name and each computer a name and IP like 192.168.0.2/3/4 etc... If the router has a log - check that it has error info. A pass phrase is a string that generates a encryption key. I have had problems with mine dropping the LCP - I set the idle time to 0 and it's only dropped the connection once since...

Well if you can't access it, and you are going to reset to default, then you will be blowing away all settings anyway. So just start new. But if not then you will need the following:
gateway ip
DNS ip
ip address (dhcp?)
If it's a wireless router you will want to setup some sort of security. I usually recommend WEP because it's the easiest to setup.

Write down your username and password if you have dsl, that uses PPPOE, you can usually get the password by right clicking on the page and choosing view source, then just search for password.
Check your port forwarding area and see if you have set up anything there.
Also write down MTU (default usually 1500, but pppoe sometimes needs 1492 or sometimes less)
Anything else that would look specific to you.
Once its gone, its gone, so write it down or take screenshots first if you are not sure.

Is your router hard wired or wireless? The answers are a bit different for each.
The wireless is the more difficult, as you need to be able to access the Routers config page.

DO THE RESET AND THE SETTINGS ARE PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD, YOU CAN GO TO YOUR ISP's WEBSITE AND THERE SHOULD BE DETAILS OF HOW TO CONNECT TO THEM USING A ROUTER, IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SPECIFIC NETWORK REQUIREMENTS TO FACTOR IN PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
