Do they mean we look like God, or do they mean we are good like God? Well, I see a lot of evil in the world, does that mean God is just as screwed up as we are? Why does he destroy creatures he created in his image? Is he destroying his own image? I don't understand. If it is meant that we look like God, then why do people say our minds cannot imagine what God looks like?

In His image translates most often to mean "How HE invisioned/and or imagined us". In otherwords we are as He Himself designed us to be. "In His Image" does not mean to look like him or be like him so much as it means - HE created us as He designed or imagined and / or built us. By His hand and blueprint.

In his image means that we are capable of loving one another, helping the world, having free will, intelligence, being able to have faith and having many other virtues that make us good people and that can help us help the world. This has nothing to do with physical appearance. We were not created exactly like God. We are not gods and that is why the world is so screwed up. he gave us these gifts to change the world but gave us the freedom of choosing how we would use these gifts. A lot of people just choose not to use them. Don't blame God for the way the world is.

The Bible and it's meanings are open to interpretation, what the people who answer might think it means could be very different. I'm sure you've heard the term "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder", well so is the meaning of the Bible. My father believes in a literal translation of the bible. When God smote the Israelites... then he really set them on fire. So as a zealot/true believer he would say that We look exactly like God. My sister who believes in God and the Bible but is a Biology Major believes that when god started the "Big Bang" he put the genetic make up the building blocks of our human anatomy in the primordial soup that we crawled out of. That way Science and religion can happily co exist for her. I think the bible is a huge book of history and social rules. I don't for one minute believe that God ever spoke to Abraham, or to Moses as a burning bush. I don't believe that God created us in his own image...
I don't believe in the God of the Bible
So the point is if you're looking for God you won't find him here. Only in your own heart is the answer.

God created our life spark, our soul in his image. He also gave us free will. God is holy and without sin, we being created in His image does not mean we share the same quality of perfection as him but he gave us the ability to be creative, to love, to have compassion but according to the bible we exercise our free will, we ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and in doing so disobeyed God and fell into sin. God only destroyed his creation once and that was when he flooded the earth. He did not actually destroy his creation, he only purified the world by flooding it because according to the scriptures fallen angels breeded with mankind defiling mans blood thus you have the recorded "giants" like Goliath in that famous story David Vs. Goliath. The corruption had gotten so out of hand Noah's family bloodline was the only bloodline unaffected and thus God had him and his family create the arc...so on. The bible also gives an example of what would happen if we look @ God. Moses went onto the mountain when he received the 10 commandments and asked to "see" God. God said it was not possible for him to see God without his physical form being killed. So God allowed Moses to see him inderectly much like you would look at someone inderectly by looking at their shadow. That alone caused Moses to age significantly. Last question of yours I want to answer...God does not destroy his own image when we creatures of free will take our image which is of him and pervert it by choosing the path of sin.

Man is created in the image and likeness of God insofar as man has the powers of intellect and will. To quote Saint Thomas Aquinas: "Let us make man to our own image and likeness, that is to say, inasmuch as he is an intelligent being..." (Source below). Man is only an image and a likeness because man's intellect and will are separate faculties, whereas in God there is no distinction between His intellect and His will. Animals and plants, which do not have the powers of intellect and will, are not in God's image in the same way.

It means that God is a human being just like us. His mind is more powerful and learned then ours that is why he is not "screwed up" God destroys evil, but he always gives us a chance to repent or get the heck out of the way. And the only reason we can't imagine what God looks like is because we have never seen him. Just like I can't imagine what you look like I have never seen you before I might just be way off.

We look like God in the fact that we are made of flesh and bones like He is, that we have two arms, two legs, 10 fingers, 10 toes, a head with two eyes, a nose a mouth, and two ears, etc. Our bodies resemble God's body and not that of say a cloud, or an armadillo or an amoeba.
We are not perfect and He is, so we do imperfect things like destroy things and make poor choices. He rarely destroys His own creations but when He does, it's because that thing has no hope of redemption in this world.

Someone who thought very highly of themself decided that God created people to look like Himself. I think Earth is an experiment by God, we are being tested to see if humans can overcome evil, and currently some people/parts of the world are failing.

It means God looks like a human.
Man brought evil into the world through sinning

Its not that people can’t imagine what God may look like, its that they clearly cant imagine all the good that god is.

God did NOT create is in HIS image! The Book of Genesis states quite CLEARLY that God said: "Let Us bring forth man in OUR image, after OUR likeness." The real question should be: When God said "OUR Image", who was he talking to??
