I want to do something unique so parties are out of the idea. I won't be 40 for a few years but would like a few ideas...

Can I hear from those who have actually done it, please?

Yeah ok so your all still pups in here. But believe it or not there are some of us coffin dodgers about who are due to turn 40 soon... LOL. I'll be 40 in April 07, and though I'd love a big faff off party with lots of friends and family, it just won't be happening. I'd love to take a trip to either New York, Puckett or even back to the Bahamas where I got married.... Hmm, its hard really, not many unique thrill factors left. Every ones done them all already, travelled the world, a year in Australia, weekends away, top jewellery, parachute jumps, etc. One pretty unique thing to do would be to be able to retire even earlier! 40 would be pretty good.

My friend and I were both 40 within the same week and decided to conquer our fear of flying and booked a fortnight in Tunisia so we could celebrate together. We left parners and children and set off for a well earned break. We did not research the holiday properly and ended up in a hotel that catered for pensioners for the winter. The weather was atrocious and the entertainment was bingo and linedancing. Not to be put off we explored the area and found a wealth of history and sights we would not have bothered with had it been hot and happening. We rode camels in the Sahara, saw the location of the filming of Star Wars, visited Cave dwellings and ancient Amphitheatres, had massages and bought beautiful light fittings and jewellery for next to nothing. We met a lovely couple from London and spent many evenings looking for somewhere to get away from the bingo. All in all it was a great experience and was a memorable 40th for both of us(even though we lived in our travelling clothes for two weeks because of the cold). It is my other friends 50th next week and we have booked a surprise Spa Day at a health farm with all the treatments. There are 6 of us going and we will be pampered from 9 to 5.Can't wait!!

When I turned 40 I took a trip to Alaska to visit my sister in Homer. It was great, seafood, moose, northern lights, fantastic vast stretches of empty country, and interestingly odd rugid people who can live there year round.

Better than getting drunk and ending up the next day suffering from a hangover!

Well for a major birthday, I went to Spain with a pile of friends, ended up on a stage dressed as a nun, singing something from the sound of music (killing it as I cannot sing).
Then ended up pole dancing on some pole in the main thoroughfare.
I have little memory of this - but the camera never lies : )

Well I will be hitting 30 next month. I want a BIG surprise party but I have a feeling I wont be having one lol. Since you dont want to have a party maybe ski dive. Or take a trip to another country. Go someplace you have always wanted to go.

got a while to go..still young atm! my mums friend went kyaking down some river though and said it was amazing. If you want to do something rly memorable why don't you jump out a plane with a banner on it and land in you're own outdoor "gathering" (not party), with a parachute preferably. could be entertaining AND original xxx

Im celebrating my 30th by renting a strectch escalade limo. We are working class, so my guest need to reserve their seat for 50$. I have had to turn people down because they interest was so great. How many times do you get to ride in that, even if it is for 50 bucks?
