I called my doctor today to inform them I am pregnant and to make my 8 - 12 week U/S appointment. She asked me my first day of my last period, which was December 1. She then informed me that I will be 8 weeks on January 26. How does that work??? I am so confused on how they figured this out. Can someone please explain to me. I have gone and done a pregnancy calculator and it says I would be due until Sept 7. Is that right?

Because they calculate back to the first day of your last period. So if you had your period on the 1st but got pregnant on the 15th, they go by the 1st but technically you'll be 6wks pregnant on the 26th, but add the two weeks back to your period and you get 8. It doesn't make sense but that's how they do it. So you're actually prego for 38 wks (with a baby) but for easy use to the doctors they say 40 wks (counting back two weeks to when your period was)

If you started on 12-01 then you period would have lasted 7 days and then you would have ovulated and that's when you got pregnant. I think you can ovulate up to 14 days. Sept 7 sounds about right.

they count not from when you got pregnant, they count from the fisrt day of your last period. Here, this will help:

You are 4 weeks and 6 days pregnant

Only 35 weeks and 1 day left until your baby is born

You are at your 1st trimester

20 days have passed from your LMP and 246 days are left until your due date (09/7/07)

8% of your pregnancy is complete

Yep it's right.
They just use the first day of your last period as a general marker, so they take it that that is when your pregnancy started. Since you 'fell pregnant' at the beginning of December, it's reasonable to say that at the and of the this month you will be two months pregnant, which is eight weeks.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

yes this is right, they go from the first day of you last period. But just think of it this way, you are two weeks ahead of what you thought and two weeks less to wait to meet your baby. congratulations, hope all goes well for you!!
