Don't start this debate again. People are so bias it isn't funny. Both animals have their qualities, in the long run it comes down to this:

1) How much space you have-cats are great for apartments, dogs need a yard

2) How much time you have-cats are fine to be left alone to themselves, dogs cherish playing and going for walks

I love both cats and dogs but it really depends on what kind of pet you want. Cats are highly independent but if you get them as kittens you can teach them to be very lovey. I have had two different cat now that love attention they both love to snuggle up at night and my current cat is patient enough to let my two year old son hug and kiss her. Cats are better pet if you have to be gone most of the day for work because they use litter boxes and also don't require a yard to play in. Dogs are very loyal and very much Pack animals they really enjoy spending time with people and other dogs. they need yards to play in and lots of time. If you have lots of time that is the pet for you

We'll need to know more about your living arrangements. if you have a house with a fenced yard and someone will be home either all day or a good part of it then go for either. If you live in a high rise building then I wouldn't go for a dog and get a cat instead. You have to consider a lot of things before taking in a pet. It is for life... Their life!

It all depends on how much time you have to give to your pet. Dogs needs to be walked and be with you and can be high maintenance. Cats sleep all day, don't need to go outside, and only want you around when they want you around. So if you need a low maintenance pet, go for a cat! I personally have 2 cats and have had a dog.

I prefer dogs, but have a cat. And for me a cat has been easier definitely, because not nearly as needy (attention wise) as a dog. I'm rarely home which would not be a schedule compatible with dog. However, if I had more time (and space, I live in a tiny apartment) I'd definitely rather have a dog.

Do you like to sleep in? Come and go as you please? Do you take overnight trips on which you are unable to take a pet? Then I would say a cat.
On the other hand:
Do you like to be up early? Do you wish you had an extra companion on your vacations? Do you find you're at home alot and wish you had a pet to hang out with? Then I would say a dog.
:)

Depends on how much time you have to devote to your new pet. Dogs are great, but they require alot of attention. You have to take them outside in all kinds of weather, walk them, etc.

Cats are equally great. They too need lots of love and attention, however they are self reliant on most things. Once they are litter trained, all you need to do empty it.

Both can have minds of their own. But, most cats are just as sweet and lovable as dogs. As with any animal it's up to the owner to train their pet to act the way they want them to.

Best of luck to you and your new addition! God bless!

I have both, and I love them dearly, but if I had to choose, it would be a dog. It depends on what you prefer.

Let me try to break it down for you. A dog thinks "You feed me, give me water, and hug me. You must be God"

A cat thinks "You feed me, give me water, and hug me. I must be
God!!!"

Big difference. Lots of cat lovers though who think that's cool.
I can see where it might be. Good Luck!!
