i usually try to learn a new song, the more songs you learn, the more chords you'll end up learning. just do a search for "chords for....." and then any chord you don't already know you can look it up on http://www.chordfind.com/ and you can also see the variations of each chord

You just need to know the number of the frets. Chordie has a chord chart that you can use, it basically has every chord. If a chord looks hard to play, click it and it'll show you other ways to play it.
