Where I live they offer Lamaze, baby basics, and a breastfeeding class. Of the three which would be the most important?

Breast feeding class! You may think this is a funny recommendation coming from a man, but....

My wife suggested this and I thought she was being ridiculous. Nevertheless, I attended this 2 hour class. In addition to instruction on technique, equipement and benefitis, they explained that this technique was not as simple as many might think. They said the spouse was also critical in providing moral support and assistance with the technique while the mom often struggles getting the baby to "latch on".

My wife would have given up within the first week, had I not been there to give her encouragement and advice (from the class). Within a couple of additional days, she mastered it and had no trouble over the next few months.

Althernatively, we attend the birthing class over 8 hours long and, although helpful, did not get nearly the benefit as we did in the breast feeding class. I recommend both, but if you were choosing one, go with the breastfeeding class.

Congrats and good luck!

breast feeding, this was the most diffucult, because during labor you have everyone helping you and telling you what to do, you can read books to prepare, but Breast feeding is hard if its your first, even if you read about it, its just not the same when this poor baby is trying to latch on and your nipple is inverted or your nipples are sore and cracked because you let him feed latched on improperly, if I could go back I would have taken the breastfeeding class, HANDS DOWN! its not easy, it can be VERY stressful for a new, exausted mom and a hungry baby, I cried a few times because my breasts were right there and he wouldnt eat just cry, cry, cry,
but after we got it down we were together for 5 months!

I didn't take any birthing classes. I gave birth fine. I just had a stress free pregnancy and gave myself affirmations. Give yourself affirmations like
"I am in control of my body", "I am able to give birth easily and painlessly"
"I am healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally", "My baby is healthy on all levels", "My body KNOWS how to give birth"
Do these affirmations often daily, especially, when you're in labor.

Affirmations are very powerful. When you feed your mind with positive affirmations, you mind, body and spirit will respond to it.
