if you are in labor you are not supposed to eat because you could throw up and choke on your food while delivering. also if your water has broke you are not supposed to take a shower because it washes away the good bacteria.

Hot showers are not recommended when pregnant at all...but warm showers are good. Also do not eat unless you want to barf it all up while delivering or unless you want to take a big poop when you deliver. I did not eat for about 19 hours before I delivered and I was starving but I am very glad I did not because when it was time to deliver I was peuking up water and it was horrible...i am so glad it was only water though and not actual chunks of food.

Um as in minutes before? if that is the case than no eating, a shower may be tricky since your going to be haveing contractions and those are a little on the painfull side and washing up while your supposed to be focusing on breathing through the contractions so that you can make sure your baby is getting enough oxygen during those times. So basicly as soon as your start having contractions stop whatever you are doing and go to the hospital, believe me you won't be thinking about a shower or food during that time anyway.

I think it would be fine, as long as your not in the hospital and they have told you not to eat or your Midwife has said not to. And shower with somebody in the room...these things have a tendency to creep up on you when you least expect it so just to be on the safe side. I remember with my first I read that jam sarnies were great for energy so I made myself a huge plate at home before we left for the hospital and then had a nice shower (well as nice as it could be I suppose) before we left. Just be careful and make sure your other half is there with you all the time. Good luck with it all....it will be fabulous once the puffing and panting is over.

They say you shouldn't eat while in labor. But what if you are hungry? And you've been in labor for 36 hours. I know if my sugar drops because I'm hungry, I'd be useless when it comes to pushing. Not to mention over exertion on an empty stomach makes me throw-up or worst dry heave because my tummy is empty. I say listen to your body, but don't eat a heavy meal if you should need to eat. I half full tummy is better than passing out because your blood sugar is out of wack. As for bathing I wouldn't let it be "HOT" as the heat could weaken you. But a warm shower or bath would be ok if it soothes you. Water birthing is supposed to help women to relax during the contractions.

You never know how long you will be in labor. Eat before you go. Hell eat in the car on the way to the hospital. I was in labor with my oldest for 36 hours (this was just while I was at the hospital) and made the stupid mistake not to eat anything. Doubt I'll ever do that again. When I was in labor with my second child, I snuck a little goody bag full of snacks in the hospital with me. Never got sick or nauseas.

each hospital has their own protocol for this stuff. i think a natural birthing center would tell u to eat because u need energy and i they would let u take a warm (not hot) shower. a hospital would prefer u not do that just in case a c-section is neccessary but they too would let u take a warm shower.

Yes you can, With my second child I was sent home when I went to the hospital. I was in labor, but I ate and took a bath then went back to the hospital 45 minutes later. It's actually what the nurse suggested to me. I was fine. It's better to eat because you'll need the energy when you're pushing.

well.. not TOO hot, I'd worry about getting dizzy and falling with too hot a shower.. But I had a salad, took a shower and put on full make up before I went to the hospital!!

I wouldn't recommend eating. When I ate prior to labor, I vomited during labor! Once you start to go into labor, don't eat. The shower should help ease the pain from your contractions.
