It depends on how many people are in the household as well as your income, rent and other expenses. Basically, if your monthly shelter and food expenses are more than 30% of your income, you will qualify. However, it doesnt mean you will get that much. I am a single mom of 2 and make approx $1200 a month. I only get $130. The most a 3 person household can get is like $360 or so.
after reviewing all the b.s. postings on here, i would just like to say that just because a person or a family is on food stamps doesnt mean that they are lazy. I work as much as i can, but i also want to be a mother to my children and not have them raised in daycare. I would have to pull in $2500 a month to support my family, and that is not an option where i live. In a perfect world, I wouldnt need help at all, but in a perfect world, i wouldnt be defending myself against all you faceless ppl, either. So, I guess the question is this...would you rather have families on food assistance...or starving, homeless families in the streets?
btw i agree with what was said about people on food stamps driving brand new cars and stuff. Its not right. But you cant condemn everyone based on a select few....

If I am right the most that you can make and still qualify for food stamps is twice the poverty level. The actual amount depends on many factors such as number of dependents living with you, part of the country that you live in, etc. What makes people like me mad is people driving brand new vehicles paying for groceries with food stamps.

Jenster, please do not listen to this people. While some take advantage of the government, many do not. What about those whose spouse left them with children and their job does not pay enough to pay the bills? What about the elderly and disabled? Most are not running to the grocery store to flash their food stamps around. I remember working at a grocery store in high school, and how most people paying with food stamps were blushing and hung their heads... It really makes you think twice before shunning people when you don't know the circumstances.
To answer your question, I believe it is based on your household size, any family income, and utility bills.

It doesn't just depend on the amount of money you make it also depends on other things as well. I thought that you couldnt work to get them but I may be wrong.
