This issue is very frustrating for me and I’ve had problems with this before. When I want to go in to do a simple search to look for “adult literature” the wording throws me into pornographic sites. When I want to look for sites that will give me movie synopsises, same disgusting results. When kids I know go into sites to do research for a school project, an occasional glitch will come through and they’re being exposed to something they shouldn’t be.

I know there are software programs out there that will enable a user to work around this situation, but what about “wording”? How can I better phrase a search so I can search for casual reading book titles without being sent to parts unknown and don’t want to know about?

If you use google it is really easy. Under the options you can have it filter all adult content. It REALLY WORKS! I prefer Google over all over search engines, however I'm sure if you use Yahoo they offer the same sort of thing.
So if you are on googles homepage... www.google.com there will be a prefrences option to the right of the search bar, in the middle of the page. Click on that. Then at the bottom of the new page you will see safe search filtering. We have ours set on moderate filtering and I never see any explicit images in our searches however I can still find what I'm looking for.
Hopefully that helps you out. I think it is a much better option then installing a program that takes up HD space and memory. Also you can install googles toolbar which blocks Pop-Ups.. we love it!

How about?

literature -juvenile -"pre-school" -"grade school" -kids

Also, it depends on what search engine you're using. Google let's you set preferences - one of which is something to do with adult content.

None of them are perfect, so your only real solution is a program such as "Net-Nanny" - I believe that is the highest rated of several. If you search for that, you will also come up with some reviews and program comparisons.

I would think that just searching for "literature" would work better than "adult." I figure that anything that's not aimed specifically at kids ("children's literature") would be adult.

Amazon actually has pretty decent synopses of books and movies.

Try to be more specific on your search, like giving the name of the author.

Don't use the term "adult". Try using fiction, novel, mystery, etc. Online, it seems the word "adult" doesn't mean grown up - it has sexual connotations.
