guess you would have to go with basketball, because cheerleading is definitely not a sport.

It was the same scenario at my school except girls who played basketball didn't have to cheer at the girl's games.
It's the same thing as football players being in band. They played football and performed at halftime.
Are you guaranteed to make the cheerleading team? If not, and you want to try it, give it a shot and keep basketball as your back-up.
If you love basketball, don't give up on it on the chance that you might make cheerleading.
When all else fails, talk to the coaches about the situation. You may learn your answer from their responses before committing to either.

If it was me I'd play basketball....But, you must do the one you like best. Only you can decide that. You can always change your mind later. However, it would be easier to quit basketball and become a cheerleader, than to switch the other way. Good luck and happy dribbling...

CONTRARY TO BELIEF HERE....WE ARE A SPORT!
I defy anyone to correct the Webster Dictionary definition of a sport:
Sport: vi, play, frolic: vt, exhibit, wear: n. anything that amuses; derision: athletic diversion.
If anything, a cheerleader is all 3 of those definitions!
We play and frolic, we exhibit and wear, we amuse, and we definitely are athletic.
For those of you who question that...stand up right now on your tip toes, reach your hands toward the ceiling, pull them sharply down in front of you while bringing your legs up at shoulder level Now touch your toes in mid air. Can't do it? Ok, try working on the exercizes that will help you. Sit on your toosh with your hand supporting your behind and back....with your legs stradled and 1-2 foot off the floor circle them for 25 times each and then 25 times together. Can't do it?
Have I made my point? If not I can continue....
Honey, you do what feels right for you. If you want to cheer, there are camps and gymastics facilities waiting for you to sign up. If you would rather play basketball, then go for that! Whatever you decide, Good Luck!

According to your question, there is only one sport mentioned. Basketball would be the sport you chose if you choose to play a sport. If you want to do a hobby or activity do cheerleading. Cheerleading is not a sport. Cheerleaders are over glorified fans.
