I'm so fed up with some of the Black kids at my school they are always trying to make fun of me because I speak proper and I use very scholarly words and because I'm in many Advacnced Placement classes and they even made fun of me for wanting to go to college to major in Communications and Psychology. Why is it that young Black kids think like this? Why do we think we can only be Entertainers, rappers, video hos, baby mamas, and criminals.

I understand how u feel my real name is sarah and black kids say u have a white name and they say u act white, because i am smart and i get good grades and that i know how to speak real english. the problem is that they know of nothin better or different and was raised that way we are portrayed as being dumb and lazy when all of us are not like that. so when they see someone who isnt like that they associate it as being white because white people are seen as being smarter and all that. also they are probably jealous becasue they arent capable of doing what u are doing. instead of hatin and being jealous of you they should like that there is a black person who defeats the stereotypes we have. also i love your avatar its so pretty. keep doing what u are doing they see u are above them so they wanna try and bring you down to there level dont let them succeed. !!!!!

There is no such things as talking black. Most African Americans do speak basic ENGLISH and the ones that don't are the ones who talk the most and make idiots out of themselves. Because they are so boisterious and loud, those are the ones people pay attention to.
Furthermore, not all young black kids think this. Not all African Americans think these things of themselves. You have to elevate your mind outside of the ignorant percentage of the black race, which is small. I have worked with many intelligent African Americans who speak proper English and they have children who do the same. You need to realize jealously comes in all forms. These kids are probably jealous of you and think you have a complex since you are more advanced education wise than they are. There are probably some white kids who feel the same way about you, but they aren't bold enough to say it in your face. They do this to discourage you, so you can do nothing with your life, as they think their future holds. Misery loves company.

Just know there are many smart black students just like you who are intelligent, speak english, and want to do something positive in life. They probably attend your school, and you will see more of them when you go to college. You keep your head up, and you continue to represent the better side of the African American community that will make a difference in society. The next time someone says something like that, remember they are jealous of you and they are trying to mess with your head. Let it roll off your back, because in the end you will have the last laugh.

Not all of the black youth think this way, but I can tell you the reason why many of the black youth think this way. I am a black man who talks proper and my accent is what some people would call "white". I was made fun of for it in high school. The reason is partially television. So many black children are exposed to these stereotypes and pick these stereotypes up as children and sadly, many of these stereotypes have been encouraged because entertainers make money off of them. These stereotypes are often glorified on television. Another reason can be related to who the children are around. If a child is around people who talk and act a certain way, most likely that child is going to act that way. The main reason is that some of these black children see the blacks who do talk proper as "uncle toms" or "traitors" for not acting or talking "black". And it isn't just black children who make fun of black children who speak proper. There are often white children who make fun of black children who talk proper. I should know. I was also made fun of by some of the whites for this reason. Part of the reason is that they grow up with a certain stereotype of blacks and when they are used to blacks who fit the stereotypes shown on television, they don't know how to treat a black child who talks proper or doesn't fit into the stereotypes, so they will often call them names like "Carlton(as in Carlton Banks)". I should know. It happens to me know and I am in college.

Its all just portreyal. there's not color on dialect. The reason why they think like that its because of the media. sometimes these kids are babysat by cable tv so they have nothing else that comes out of their mouth and they get brain washed . Not all african American are going to be Baby mammas, Hos, Rappers and entertainers or criminals. some will eventually get it sometime in their life, like every other race.... you just keep working hard and doing what you have to do to break the steortyping. i know i broke mine when my own family kept asking me when am i gonna get married at age 21! (im hispanic) they eventually get it. now when i see them they ask me when am i gonna finish school? or can i help my cuz apply to school. that makes me happy :)

People like Jesse Jackson incourage that type of mentality. It's truly disgusting and I feel sorry for children, of any race, whose parents do not enforce proper speaking in their homes. I do not understand why people think it is ok to butcher the English language and to use grossly incorrect grammer. This is an area that I wouldn't mind our government stepping in. Something really needs to be done. Intellengence is beautiful and will take you farther than looks or money. You stay strong. Hang in there and continue to do what you know is right.
I guarentee you that when you roll through town later in life in your fansy new luxury ride or when you become famous, they will all want to be your buddy then.

Its just another racial term to keep segregration among the races strong. Don't pay any attention to them you'll have an easier time acheiving your goals after high school than they will. It is sad what popular media culture does to our black youth it makes them think its ok to ditch education and get thier "bling" entertaining, being athletic, or turn to crime. They act as if achievement is a bad thing, don't fall into the trap trust me it only brings you headaches in the future.

You've asked a good question. The heart of the matter, though, is that neither "white" or "black" speech is preferable. Sure, an African American might say, "Why you dissin me, Bro?" and sound somewhat less than educated, but a Caucasian in America might also have poor speech patterns..."like you know, like I just like never did like botherin' with like proper English'. My point is that, black or white, speaking with poor command of the English language shows at the very least a cavalier attitude and/or a poor education.
So, just keep doing what you're doing...you don't have to fit into anybody's preconceived notions of speaking properly, with the possible exception of Noah Webster. :-)

I am a teacher at a low income school. I hear this all the time from students, parents and grand-parents. Yes... I am white-but I am not teaching my students to 'talk white' I am teaching them to speak proper English. Think about your future. Who would Donald Trump hire? To make money and be successful you have to sound like you know what you are talking about. Trust me, I'm from Louisiana and I correct my crazy Cajun family's speech as well!! Think about yourself and where you want to be in the future. Good luck.

To them your considered boojie. Your doing everything in your power to be someone and advancing in life instead of becoming another statistic placed upon african american men and women. Theres no black and white way of talking. You choose to talk like a black women with an education and black people see you as thinking your better. They want a reason to make you feel bad because their jealous. Keep doing what your doing and screw everyone else and what they think.

I'm assuming, from seeing your avatar, that you're black. I'm very glad that you notice this yourself from the black race (most, not all, but definately the majority) and that I'm not being racist by viewing it the same way, although I'm white. Every time a non-black person mentions, although it's in a respectful tone, about how alot of black people act (speaking ghetto-ishly), then we're considered racist. I don't care what color a person is, I just wish they'd act like they have a little bit of sense (intelligence).

I AM aware that alot people say that it's not a black and white thing. Although, I agree that it SHOULDN'T BE, it definately is. I agree with everything you said, and am not saying that all act like that. There are many black people that I've met who are extremely intelligent, speak right and I consider my friends and like being around them. But for some reason, most of them aren't like this. Then they get mad when other races say it about them. Why do they get mad us for noticing it when they should be getting mad at the ones who are the ones acting like it making the rest of them look bad?
